we didn't see a great deal of either jens or kimi this morning

jens drove as though he was just running in a new engine , so was probably parts testing .....the team have already said that this isn't the car they are going to race I understand , there will be major changes

kimi drove as though he had never been away , looked really sharp ; let's hope lotus have a decent car this year , at least good enough to battle with mercedes

yeah free choice of compounds and you can even put different compounds on the rear and the front.

but in defence of the FIA, refueling was brought in because by the early 90's, the races had become very processional. but then they took the refueling away for safety and also because everyone was saying it was artificial.

13:33 From what we've seen over the past two days, even his low-speed aero test runs will features kerb-hopping and kicking up the dust.
Looks like Kimi is bringing some of his rallying experience into F1.

Actually - on that note. The rear end of the car does seem rather flighty; more so than in Raikkonen's first F1 career

That & EBD constitues around 1-1.5s of time. Even with a SWB Mercedes with their EBD & hot blowing gained 1 FULL Second atleast. Not as much Mclaren or RBR but even then quite a lot. I doubt if any of the 2012 cars will be able to cross last season's lap times anyway.

BTW Mercedes with EBD is only 0.6s faster than RBR. LOL. Still a long way to go

Mercedes EBD never saw 1-1.5 seconds. If you remember, when the changed from their side blown exhaust to the EBD late in the '11 season the car was just barely any quicker let alone half a second. Mercedes was in the same boat as everyone else except RB and Mclaren in that they didn't see even half the benefit the top two teams did. EBD aside, I believe testing today confirms just how powerful the EBD was for Red Bull yet not for others. If W02 is .6 quicker than RB8 at this point then I'm wondering how much quicker W03 might be considering Bell has been buried in the sand developing in Brackley for a year now lol.

McLaren have made up for lost laps this afternoon, it would seem, with Jenson doing a couple of 15 (ish) lap runs to get them close to the 60 or so they did yesterday.

Schu just ran 16 laps starting in the 1:19s, lots of 1:20s and ending with a 1:22. Medium fuel?

Lost my wifi... any timings for those 15(ish) runs?

If not, no worries.

German car magazine "Auto Motor & Sport" published an article about the first day at Jerez. In this article, they state that Ferrari is using an exhaust system which creates a spinning motion of the exhaust gases - when it doesn't burn its housing. Basically like a rifling on a long range gun.

Did anybody read about this somewhere else for corroberation? Is it legal and in compliance with the 10 deg. regulation regarding the lowest possible exhaust angle? What's the destination of this higher energetic flow? Judging from the many temperature strips, it might be towards the mid-mounted wing element ... but who knows.

Sorry, mate, nothing accurate, I can just say he was doing fairly consistent 1.23.5 (ish) times for most of the last set.

Wifi Back!

Ok from what I can tell, Mercedes have been hiding something on the back of their car.
Seems everyone is interested in the new cars, Mercedes could be testing a few bits and bobs of the W03.

The long stints from MS have serious pace. Much faster than anything else I can see today.

Even after 14 laps he was still in the 1:21s

I'd love to know how much the new car is slower than this old one, because if its the same or faster then it does look pretty good for Mercedes this year. Its not just one lap pace top of the time sheets stuff, its consistent laps.

If I were a betting man, I would say W03 would be quicker strictly down to Bird mentioning a 'creative' radiator design which probably means tighter sidepods and the fact that W03 will not have the same CoG issues W02 suffered from.
