Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Almost looks like a slot is carved out of the lower wing element.

Notice the metal reinforcement where the exhaust blows. Tis new as well.

Edit: not metal reinforcement, it's heat shielding tape. Same purpose though, keep floor from getting too hot.

Why would they be blowing the front of the wing?

If the FW F-duct was real it would be blowing the rear of the front wing wouldn't it?

Back of the car is looking very tidy, dare I say it cleaner looking than the Red Bull, differnet concepts I know but it's something that Mcca have obviously put a lot of effort into.

That slot would be the inlet. Trying to find another view of it but it's difficult.

They point to Charlie's comment that "some teams" have the duct, plus the two photos below - the one showing McLaren running flowvis on the left side of both the front and rear wing in the final test, and the other from a supposed photo shoot today, but with them using the new rear wing on last year's car...

Jenson's helmet differs between the two pictures. Notice the white triangles pointing towards the centre on top. He might have both helmets with him however.

Unless that isn't Jenson in photo 2.

Isn't it Gary Paffet?? he has a really similar helmet (colour wise). I tink he is at the circuit too as I heard him being interviewed during practice

It is Gary Paffett, here's a pic of him wearing the same helmet at a test in 2008: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... 2008_1.jpg

He's in Oz also acting as FI's reserve driver because their usual man Jules Bianchi is busy at the Formula Renault 3.5 test.

That is Paffet in the MP4-26. He drove for an event called "Ultimate Speed Comparison" (or something like that).

So we all ask again, what does this crap have to do with the MP4-27.

That's right, nothing. Nothing at all. So you just sit back down and keep your mouth shut dummy.

There is no shortage of other internet sites that prefer to trade in that tedious personality based tabloid garbage, you go find one, and leave this place to the grown-ups. You understand?

Does anyone have that brilliant footage of the onboard camera that shows under the MP4-27 (front diffuser, mainly)?

they used that camera on both free practices.
