Re: Mercedes AMG F1 W03

Post

So has anyone else heard that Mercedes are pulling out of F1?

It's all over the German newspapers. A friend (who can read German)told me about it. Seems like the major investors want out. The suggestion received a standing ovation.

Here's an English article: http://www.worldcarfans.com/11204114328 ... to-quit-f1

This ties in with the lack of Concord agreement. I don't think we'll see them on the grid next year.

true JET,I think Brawn and Norby have just done enough to get the go ahead for another three years.
No question the decision time for the budgets for the coming years (or withdrawel)is looming and a pole or a podium by MS would definetely fit the agenda a lot better than Nico babblinga round about the unability of MGP to sort the issues.Let´s see if he can redress the balance this weekend -sure he is aware of people not having much patience with Schumacher being constantly outperformed by his teammate ...

Well if Practice 2 times are any indication Schumacher has a shot at pole atleast. Lets see if that happens and how that would change the situation.

I wonder if their tyre guy is the issue. I seem to remember back in the Honda/BAR days there were also cars that had tyre issues, and even the BGP001 struggled to get tyre heat in cold races

It seems as though it were a genetic issue recurring in the descendents of BAR/Honda. Whatever the reason is, it is their biggest problem at the moment.

I know one thing for sure. Ross Brawn will explain this after the race:

It was a dissapointing race for us. The car has all the fundamentals to win a race or at least get a podium, but we cant find a good way to make the tyres work. We are working on it and today we got a lot of information about the car behaves in difficult situations.
Everybody is working very hard and we may surprise and see in the next few race where we are.

I have to admit he's gonna say something pretty similar if the situation is the same as the races before.

Lets not declare the race results even before qualifying. We have yet to see what will happen. They could bring in the cars in p4-6 which would be a nice step forward.

Ofcourse if you're expecting a race win or podiums dissapointment might be expected.

I really hope that Mercedes won't withdraw from F1.
I really see it as a way for them to succeed where BMW couldn't -the rewards will surely be great for them if and when they do get to the top and I really believe they will get there if they show perseverance.
I think if they withdraw now it will be more damaging for them - their failure in F1 will be something that never goes away.
I think it's a massive achievement for them to be where they are after just 2 years - they're already a highly regarded team considered to be amongst the top teams.
Pity others don't share this viewpoint.
Does this supposed talk of withdrawal include their supply of engines?
I took them some years after they began supplying engines to McLaren for their engines to start winning races, surely they must realize that Rome wasn't built in a day.
How much of this is just the media trying to get a good story?
What a huge loss for the sport if they do withdraw, especially if it includes their supply of engines too.
Bernie should be doing everything he can to give them a great deal in the Concorde Agreement - F1 needs Mercedes!

My prediction for the race is for Michael to qualify P2, Nico P4.
I think Schumacher will get a podium, Nico will finish P6.

I'm thinking Michael will qualify in the top 3 and finish either 4th or 5th.

Nico so fast today!! maybe totally different settings for Merc drivers to much gap between them.

BTW: on pole lap Nico use all KERS before long straight line.

Hmm... well my qualifying prediction wasn't badly off. Schumacher was 3rd after all. Let's hope the race prediction comes true also :)

My thought as well. I wonder if Mercedes set up Rosberg for pole and Schumacher for the win. That seems like just the sort of trade-off one would make to split the difference of the Daffy Duct.
