Something the FIA misses, is that some of the best F1 races historically were run in the rain.

It's sad we'll never see a race like Spa '98 again in our lifetimes with the way things have gone.

The FIA should tell Pirelli to come up with a better rain tire...I have no doubt they could if they were told to do so.

Either that, or maybe someone should go give Charlie Whiting some videos of Spa '98, Canada '89, Estoril '85 as a little reminder of some of the great things in F1's past.

For the amount of money they are getting paid etc... put on a show for the fans etc... the list goes on and on. Personally I think they should race unless it really is raining biblically.

Mclarens look quick on full wets or dry, not sure why they look slow on the inters, maybe it's a temperature thing?

Great lap from Alonso, and a really great lap from Schumi, dark horse for the win if it' wet?

Yeah, McLaren seem to destroy their inters very quickly :wtf: .

Schumacher set a competitive lap time on the extreme's vs the inters in Q3, he looked pretty good out there.

Hoping for rain. [-o<

Pirelli need to make better wet tyres, that would be fit for such a situation as today.

Here's hoping that just the right amount of rain water gets dumped on the track and neither Charlie Whiting, the SC or red flag gets in the way of what could be a great wet race. [-o<

Which US TV channel will broadcast the race live???

It used to be SpeedTV, the last two races were on Fox and now I can't find anything. SpeedTV will broadcast the race tomorrow night (8:30pm PST) but I want to see it LIVE!

Somebody please, tell me!

@ fiohaa & myurr

But is it just the tires that changed since 1998 or are the floors closer to the ground as well? I was talking about aquaplaning, not lack of grip.

This is absolutely nothing against Mr. Alcatraz, but don't trust that time. This is a "Check your local listings" deal.

I missed the last race entirely because the time I saw posted here was inaccurate for where I live. Fox's schedule is schizophrenic when it comes to tape-delayed events.

I was going to complain about the race not being show live, but then again as usual I'm not waking up before sunrise to watch it. The only downside is that I won't be able to hold back from seeing the results, so the race isn't quite the same.

No worries, by the time they're allowed to race you will be having breakfast anyway!

Yes it's difficult, but they used to race in those conditions and deal with it, and I'd like to see a return to that. Think of all the great drives that we would never have witnessed had the current caution been in place.
I think the guys who were aquaplaning in Q2 yesterday were on a full dry setup whereas those who were quick in early Q2 (Hamilton etc.) were blown away once the track dried sufficiently for sustained inter use by the dry guys (Alonso, Schuie etc).

If that is the case, then I would take the view that with the weather conditions before the race weekend and frecast throughout the weekend, those who gambled on a dry set up should be expected to run it or park up. In effect, the FIA made the decision yesterday that anyone who went dry should be protected from that choice and those who went wet will be disadvantaged. And that is just wrong.

That's interesting. Do you have a link for the info on who was on dry setup and who wasn't? In his interview Hamilton only said they never managed to make the inters work.

So the latest news is drizzle all through the race, looks like bad news for McLaren, they'll be on inters all the way. Interesting, Hamilton was saying HE couldn't get any temperature in the front tyres... Looks like that McLaren is seriously struggling for that now.

Perhaps they just got the tyre pressures wrong for the conditions, they still have that option to play with in the race. If they'd raced with the new adjustable front wheel brake ducts then perhaps this also would have helped but I understand how risky it would have been to have raced with all those mechanical changes without being able to test them first.

On the full wets and in the dry in practice they looked like they were on song. They also looked pretty good at the very beginning of Q1 when they were on inters but there was plenty of water around, so my guess is that they only really struggle when it's a drying track. Strangely though that is when it should be easiest to get heat into the tyres :P
