Aero Research in regard to Cylinder Head Port design...

Hello all, i see you have quite a few members on this board familiar with CFD software, and i was curious to know if such software could be used to acurately model port designs and subsequent changes you could make in shape that would affect mass flow rate and velocity. Is there any way to factor in the fuel being injected? I know i have alot of questions, thanks for taking the time to read this. For some eye candy, heres some recent port work ive done...

I only know (never worked with them!) Wave and GT-Power for port modelling. They are not free. You can find both links (perhaps Amesim can be of some help) here, at a page I have on simulation software, not updated in months. Sorry for the self promotion... :oops:

I have found --not that the pictures offer me good 3D observation---that it is good to enlarge the pocket immediately above the valve --to a sort of plenum area---I have also found--modelling/ shaping this area so that the intake steam enters as close to 90 degree to the valve rear face is useful
to maximize a squish effect from the rear conical shape of the rear valve face has to swirl the charge--I have had to take so much metal off the port to achieve this--that aluminum weld had to be puddled in and ground as I had breached the wall of the port to open atmosphere--I have resisted the temptation to enlarge ports to "tunnels" that lower intake velocity colum below the threshold of efficency---but all my post is irrelevent--because the head is not on my bench--and every motor design is different--CFD--software yes---but it is still more black art than science--but we have not done one in 2 years--so time intensive--unless your doing your own machine to ride--customers can never have faith that the work is optimal--nor are you ever compensated properly for your expertise or time---rather like an unappriecitive lover---

Some built experimentaly head barrels of clear plastic---high speed photograph of smoke into fixture--actual observation--havent heard of this being done in many years--do consider these to posts as advice-- not as material foe debate---I have already offered more of my secrets than a magician should---and of course---a magic technique offered --should be recieved with spiritual generosity.

But your actual question CDF software--my understanding is that most packages are so malable-- that if you have the knowledge--the databases--the algoritms--the time and programming skills--many CFD programmes can be bent to your will---

yes it can be simulated with most good cfd software it would be alot of work for a one off head its probly better to do trial and error
