Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Does that loss of horsepower also have an impact on reliability (as in better reliability)? Vettel's engine was doing his 4th weekend if I recall correctly.

Yes it impacts it some but to be fair it affects all the engines. Not just Renault. But with all the talk of RB reliability I figured I'd mention it.

Still we do not know if this is true and we also do not know whether he wouldn't use another previously used engine.

It does affect them all, but a slightly more reliability will give especially Vettel some more breathing room. Even with the predicted rain, I think the title will be decided by whether or not Vettel crossing the finish line on Sunday.

Don't know if what is true? I know for sure the Renault engine loses 60 horses(8%). And obviously the high altitude makes the engine work harder which in turn affects reliability.

It must be said its never hurt RB at Interlagos before.

Yep. What baffles me is why RB(and Merc) are the only ones smart enough to do this..

Edit: those are 2012 tyres

Sorry, Crucial_Xtreme, I haven't seen your post. I meant to answer to turbof1 that we don't know for sure whether Vettel's 8th was built in in India or Abu Dhabi first. Yes, I know the graphics posted around here, but it's hard to take it for sure as I read different stories.

As RBR had reliability issues this year it could be that they suffer some on Sunday. On the other hand Ferrari had no issues and it could be that statistics turn around. I'm a bit tired of always reading people wishing some drivers bad luck or even to crash only because of base motives. That's pathetic. Crossing one's fingers for one's favourites is one thing, wishing evil to the contenders is the other. And it has increased somewhat. This is a technical forum but sometimes I think it got hijacked by fanboys.

I also joined not until 2010, but I'm also sad (someone mentioned it before) that the guys from the early times have turned their backs on this forum due to this situation. [/rant]

NB: It's not my intention to insult anyone, esp. turbof1 or Crucial_Xtreme (to make it clear, because your names appear within this post). This still is a great forum, probably the best in the F1 universe. I'm glad that this forum has grown, I'm grateful to be a member of this community and welcome everyone who joins us (maybe except spammers etc.). I have gotten many many fantastic insights form you all as I'm no expert and I hope this will go on.

No mate, I never wish mechanical failure upon anyone. Not my style and I'm not sure many want to win like that.

I agree there is a graphic going around but we can't treat it as gospel. Only the team really knows what engine their on/using. I had just mentioned it because Red Bull themselves have mentioned concerns about reliability.

I know, sorry that it seemed that I would have misinterpreted you. This is just something that is getting more and more acceptable to move from objective analysis to favouritism. I wanted to write sth. about it earlier but delayed it.

So I'm quiet for now and hoping for a thriller on the track.

They did runs on the 2013 tyres with measurements aswell, atleast Merc did.

You can see in the picture Forza posted Red Bull have modified their diffuser similar to the Mercedes & Ferrari style of an extra channel in the center section under the rain light/crash structure.

Are you sure? I can't see that.
EDIT: Two different cars to compare?
