Building a racecar

Post

After reading many of these posts i want to make a hand-built racecar. But at the moment i dont have the finances to make it happen. I was wondering if we could use our collective brain power to design up a race car? There would be enough talent to take this very far im sure....Thats if you accept this mission....

Well the problem with this is that usually you need a few core people that are experienced with designing. 2 months ago we launched this idea with some guys being interested for initially design a car with CAD and then test it by CFD analysis.

However, while I like the idea, I myself am not experienced so someone else would have to take up and lead the project. Once initiated it could be interesting, although working on such a project with several people requires organisation and knowledge of the design programs in order to merge them in a last final stage.

So, I'd be supportive on this forum and try to guide it a bit, but that's about all I can do.

As a consultant--Perhaps I can offer some advice. Someone must take the lead and become Program Director. This will involve a lot of time and effort. They will have to organize the Design Team and integrate all contributions. I would suggest finding freeware CAD and CFD and Project Organization software for all members to use in common. I would suggest that a library of design texts--be used in common, by the design team.
The Program Director should decide the specifications of the car, select a drive train and uprights/hubs/brakes from a production car and specify materials for chassis and suspension fabrication. A new thread should begin to gather input on all these subjects. Computer specifications must also be stipulated for the utilization of all software. Be advised this is complex task that will be a long term project.
