Mercedes AMG F1 W04 (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Would be a huge screw up though from Mercedes.
In that case, Aabar made the deal of the year. Sold their stakes and still their name on the car. Yeah, that seems very logic to me (sarcasm mode off).
Wasnt Aabar partially owned by Mercedes-Benz/owned a part of Mercedes-Benz? If that then it is quite logical to still see the name on the car. Since it is involved in Mercedes-Benz(the car manufacturer).

Also, talking about your logic, does the name "Lotus" ring any bells?

I didnt took a look at the sponsorship on the car, I took a look at the car, and noticed a few things that seemed different.
Aarbar had a 40% stake, now Wolff is getting 30% of the AMG team and Lauda 10%, this is basically the old Aarbar stake that Daimler bought back last year.
Do you feel you can beat the Red Bulls, either to pole position or the race itself?

With all due respect Wolff will not be "getting" 30% he has an opportunity to purchase those shares at the sole discretion of Daimler if they deem it necessary to float the shares/stake of the team.

Back on the W04, Wesley I'm interested to see your observation from your own eyes/perspective could you possibly lay down some insight in what you see/don't see?
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

English is not my first language, with "getting" i don't mean he gets them for free off course :?
But i was under the impression that Mr.Wolf became a 30% shareholder of Mercedes and Lauda will hold ten.
And the fact that Wolff is also holding on to his 15% of Williams, makes it a little awkward.
Isn't that how it is? I could be terribly wrong off course.

Seems good compared to what? W03 from what he has heard or the designers/engineers say? Last year's McLaren? Really this kind of info is borderline useless, teams do not know where they stand until the first 2-3 races. Even testing in the same track can fool you, let alone a simulation drive. If you remember correctly, last year Nico said that the car felt instantly better and MSC was positive citing the fewer arm movement that he needed to steer the car. We all saw how that went at the end...

Lots of things can be good in the simulator.

Yes indeed, maybe it is the Mercedes simulator that's bad.

Yeah they won a race, more than any other Mercedes car since they bought Brawn... So the car probably did feel good when correctly dialled in to the circuit and conditions. They just do that consistently and keep up with the rest of the grid over the season.

yeah even simulators are different specs!
and this is just usualy hype to make sponsers/ fans/ fanbois get into it more. mercedes, toro rosso and force india and other teams better start becoming contenders this year. im going to be the hardest on them, I really dont see the point in joining a sport to say we have the smallest budget and we are coming 5th or 6th in standings. that means Jack squat!

german bild.de claims, that the image of hamilton and the sceleton of a f1 car at brackley indeed shows the new w04.

forth: http://www.yallaf1.com/2013/01/25/brawn ... in-charge/

shows a so called "virtual" look of the w04. one can see the more conventional nose and the seemingly smaller airbox (already 2014 design?)

enjoy!

I don`t think, that this is the w04. The tyres looks like "Bridgestone" and the logo of the "Bridgestone" brand is on the nose. This should be virtual look of the w01.

I also don't believe that is the W04. Same with the Hamilton-chassis picture; Mercedes would never be so careless.
The skeleton car is looks very strange to say the least. The nose is nowhere near their normal philosophy. Also look at the front wing and endplates. Those are pre-2009 spec. My guess? A mercedes-repainted mp4.
