That exact photo gets posted on Reddit's F1 group every few months. It's either the W01, or an earlier car with the W01's livery.

Guys as Cocles said look at the livery. I would add the sidepods, FW etc.

I guess the car is the W03. We can see the inlet above the airbox which feeds a radiator above the gearbox(the radiator is not in the picture). Even if it is hard to see i think the endplates are thicker, but now the DDRS is banned ( yes i know that they can still make the endplates thicker).

I would never understand why Mercedes should show us the inside of their brand new car earlier as they need to.

Totally agreed with you. Diffuser, beam wing, rear wing, the little grills near the mirrors, all are from W03. Doesn't make sense, given that the car was made from scratch.

Yes it is a Bar-Honda either from 2005 or 2006... just look at the airscoop intake with its distinctive pentagonal shape...
And sidepods without undercut, plus front wing.

It's an old photo from last year. They re-used it for that art-work, re-painted in Mercedes GP colour scheme.

There has been a debate months ago on facebook about it.

It's actually 2 or more cars. I have searched for a honda with the same endplate-flat wing combination. Nowhere a car to be found that has both of them, but I came accross one that had the exact endplate and another one with the exact same FW.

To end all speculation about it: It is the EXACT same car as honda had:


When first Brawn and the Mercedes took over, they apperently inherited this and gave it a paintjob. Notice the old paintjob is a BAR one, with Jenson's name on it. Honda bought BAR in 2006, though kept the paint job for that year. Jenson joined BAR in 2003. So those parts are from between 2003-2006. The FW is pre-2005.

Isn't it just an old chassis being mocked up as a show car? Looks like it has a spacer instead of an engine to me as the airbox doesn't meet anything at the bottom and the rear end appears to be attached so must be attached to something.

Incidentally and just for laughs I went to silverstone in 2001 and caught a look at the Arrows showcar whilst "Hearsay" were draping their unattractive haunches all over it. I looked down the exaust holes to find a huge block of timber instead of an engine. Very elegant!

To be fair to Bild the caption on the photo says "A virtual look at Mercedes’ F1 contender (not 2013 model)"

Its not as bad as the Ferrari teaser recycling a McLaren image!
