Here is the line I would take, and this line max's out the revs the most (according to my trusty Alfano)

As I posted in another thread:

Could be a myriad of reasons why. Interestingly, the car looks so understeery it hurts. Wonder how he got his podium with such a car, maybe that is intentional?

As I understand, there is a big bump on the left hand side right before the braking point into (not ascari) the parabolica, that why they stay to the right the majority of the way down that straight

So why do other drivers disgonal it? The bump, AFAIK, is mid-track, shortly after the exit of Ascari, rather than near the Parabolica braking zone.

You just increase the chance of messing up the braking and entry to the following corner.
That is a good point, positioning the car to the next corner early gives you more time to concentrate at the braking point.

Personally, i always diagonal the track, be it simracing or karting, can't say it's the faster line, but it's just natural.

Weird thing about Perez's line, since he goes past the white line on the exit of Ascari he brings the car back to middle of the track (of course, otherwise he would hit the grass) but instead of just keeping the car pointing in that direction he brings it back to the edge of the track.

I wonder how much traction advantage you get when you have to do all that.

What do you mean by traction advantage?

I think Sevach was being sarcastic, implying that because Perez has to correct (from his wide exit) then corrects again to stick to the right of the track, there is more lost through tyre scrub and less traction. I don't think the traction part is really a big issue here though - IMO traction is never a problem at the exit of Ascari.

Sorry, it's a continuation from a different thread so it wasn't very clear to understand (Raymond was there so he got it).

Anyway, the argument is: When you keep your car straight after the corner exit you have better acceleration than if you do a diagonal, that (suppousedly) saves some time.

But when you are jiggling your car from side to side (like Perez did) what's the point of sticking to the "wrong" side of the track?

oh ok, missed that thread :)

good question, i don´t think there was any thought of him doing it but rather a sub-conscious thing that does nothing except make you a fraction slower.
