The Mercedes is well balanced and good over the bumps.
The Ferrari looks very good as well, perhaps a little faster.
The RedBull has an amazing front end, Vettel just points and the car is there.

The edge of Merc's front wing touched the ground at least once in T1. Have any of you guys seen anyone else do the same ? It was a common theme for Merc last season you know...

They said early on in the broadcast that Alonso, and Massa were using different engine covers. Is that in fact true, any pics?

Everyone's been making a hoo-hah about the tyres this year, but this year (with 22 cars) people covered a total of 406 laps. Last year, with 24 cars, they covered 368. That's 15.3 laps per car last year, compared to 18.5 laps per car this year.

@Mr Alcatraz, It is true, Massa had the final Barcelona version, Alonso had a new one discussed in the Ferrari thread.
Maldonado also reverted to Williams semi coanda exhausts halfway through the session.

And i agree medium tyres seemed very consistent, let's see the supersofts.

Any ideas as to where pole will be? I'm guessing they'll shave maybe a second and a half off if it's dry. By my reckoning it will be on and off wet tomorrow, enough to make it a lottery qualifying especially since it will be windy and cold(for the tires). Sunday will be cloudy, sunny, albeit very windy, the first few laps will be very chaotic. Unfortunately so will the end with the sun setting and the track cooling off making tire degradation worse than normal. Whoever gets any sort of sunny running will be fast because the track will come into it's temperature range.

Today's practice time was more due to conditions improving than any pace advantage. Further complicating matters is the high probability of inclement weather skewing tomorrows results.

The McLaren looked smooth, albeit a second off the pace.

The Red Bull was a Red Bull.

The Mercedes, Lewis tried to drive it like a McLaren and it obviously didn't drive like one. Messy, but still able to set a time.

I've noticed most of the teams are literally scared to turn the cars in at corner entry. Looks like another tyre management year, on a much greater scale.

Everyone is going round corners like they're driving front wheel drive ford fiestas lol.
The Mclaren looked smooth, yet Hamilton was messy? how you work that out? from what I saw the Mclaren looked average, I know they were running heavy but it certainly didn't look very good either.

I don't think the Mclaren looking smooth and Hamilton messy is quite the paradox you think it is

8/10ths of a second covering the top 7 cars is pretty darn impressive! It's going to be a very close 2013 WDC fight i reckon!

So, with best sector times SV was at 1.26.9., which is at least 4 tenths clear from 2nd.

Alonso is at 306 KM/h at the end of the main straight but at 303 KM/h already at the finish line.. Vert short seven gear, or massive traction for them ? It's reminds me Red Bull at Monza 2011, very low at the end of the straight, but the quickest car to exit a corner.
