Lotus E21 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

if the PDRS doesnt work, it gonna cost them dearly on 1st and last sector given how much rear wing they are running compared to the rest.

"Up to three tenths" was the estimation AFAIR.

been a dissapointment so far.

im just wondering, by running high downforce package

- losing on straight
- losing on eau rouge as PDRS kick in
- benefit on middle sector again balance out by pdrs kick in effect due to high speed long corner esp pouhon.

What does Lotus gain in the end??? ROFL

What is "E27" and where did this naming come from?
"...and there, very much in flames, is Jacques Laffite's Ligier. That's obviously a turbo blaze, and of course, Laffite will be able to see that conflagration in his mirrors... he is coolly parking the car somewhere safe." Murray Walker, San Marino 1985

From omnicorse, who il clearly wrong since a few days ago. Because if you read the article they say that lotus brought a longer wheelbase versione of the E27, but the cars name is E21.
Edit: here they change'd it right now : http://translate.google.it/translate?hl ... a-bocciata

Oh, I see now. I was wondering why E27 and not E21B if they wanted to give it a name.

It's not the same. They have 2 different type. Now they are running with less downforce rear wing (and only 3 slots). Look previous page (last image)

They are running a thinner Montreal style RW... but ti's still 'thicker' than Ferrari, RBR, Mclaren RW.
Like Permane said (I cant find the Interview) Lotus is opting for more rear downforce and is sacrifiyng a bit of top speed since a couple of GPs.

Not sure if anyone has picked up on it in the past but the starter motor hole is being exploited quite a lot on the Lotus. It almost looks like a double diffuser, the way it's shaped. Excuse my crappy outlining on my iPad.
