Ferrari F138

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

how true could it be ?. can some throw a bit more light on effect of tyre construction on car's aerodynamics?.
Could it be that because Red Bull was able to better seal the diffuser with the exhaust gases, their car gained more speed in corners because of less tire deformation with the new tires? And that the old rubber made the other strengths of a car more dominant?

Quite likely, and it explains why McLaren found a bit of form as they complaint about tyre deformation throwing off the diffuser performance.

This was not the reason behind Ferrari's setback. If we remember, they started with the bad form already in Monaco, much earlier than the tire swap happened. So Alonso is talking BS as always,.

You can't say that Ferrari started to loose form @ Monaco cause it is the first High Down-force low speed track of the year. It was quite obvious at Monaco that they were lacking in that environment. As it was obvious that they were weak in the 3ird sector of the Spain GP (which is basically a bunch of low speed corners).

BTW, I so dislike those tracks because the inability to pass makes them yawners. That plus if you get ahead , you can got 4 seconds a lap slower and the people behind still can't pass. Race tracks that have no no space for passing is a poor excuse of a race track!

Alonzo did come back and finish 2nd in Canada Behind Vettel. Thou the 2nd at Canada did make an important statement, RBR were faster that Ferrari in Low down-force. Which led to Vettel's victories in SPA and Monza. I think those races would have been closer with the steel belted tires.

Is the diffuser a new one? I might be wrong, but It seems that there a small change at the side ends of the diffuser.

Doesn´t make sense to mount two different ones.
I think the photos were made at different times.

I don't think its so senseless to run such a configuration in free practice. Lets you evaluate both systems in one run instead of two.

Running such a setup in competition woul dbe a different story

The sense is that different ventings transfer different heat to right tyre and left tyre
Mercedes used it at Silverstone and Nurburgring

Yes makes sense.
But in case of the Ferrari pics the difference between both brake covers is too big.
