He wasn't great at Renault, it was surprising to see him end up Mclaren, where he was comprehensively out done by Hamilton, then he didn't set the world on fire at Caterham either.Phillyred wrote:I'm not expecting much from Heikki compared to Grosjean, but it would be nice to see him place in the points. I thought the general consensus was that he did set the world on fire at Caterham in 2011 when he dominated Trulli and put the Caterham into Q2 several times at the expense of many midfield teams.Cold Fussion wrote: He wasn't great at Renault, it was surprising to see him end up Mclaren, where he was comprehensively out done by Hamilton, then he didn't set the world on fire at Caterham either.
since trulli had problems with his steering input due to power steering insensibility, he struggled to perform the way he is used to. trulli usually had a good qualifying pace, yet with lotus/caterham he struggled. and if heikki did dominate trulli, might say more about trulli rather then kova. i remember petrov didn't do much under compared to kova. so what does that say about heikki? I think heikki's experience and possible technical/development skills add more value than his actual pace.Websta wrote:I thought the general consensus was that he did set the world on fire at Caterham in 2011 when he dominated Trulli and put the Caterham into Q2 several times at the expense of many midfield teams.Cold Fussion wrote: He wasn't great at Renault, it was surprising to see him end up Mclaren, where he was comprehensively out done by Hamilton, then he didn't set the world on fire at Caterham either.

He was voted driver of the year in 2010 or 2011 by the team principles....!Cold Fussion wrote:He wasn't great at Renault, it was surprising to see him end up Mclaren, where he was comprehensively out done by Hamilton, then he didn't set the world on fire at Caterham either.Phillyred wrote:I'm not expecting much from Heikki compared to Grosjean, but it would be nice to see him place in the points. No he wasn't. 2010 was Alonso, 2011 was Vettel.PNSD wrote:He was voted driver of the year in 2010 or 2011 by the team principles....!Cold Fussion wrote:He wasn't great at Renault, it was surprising to see him end up Mclaren, where he was comprehensively out done by Hamilton, then he didn't set the world on fire at Caterham either.Phillyred wrote:I'm not expecting much from Heikki compared to Grosjean, but it would be nice to see him place in the points. Knowing that McLaren/Honda wants him, it wouldn't be dumb, and also keeps Ferrari in "control" in case they (McL) go after Hulk. I may be suseptable to conspiracies, but this goes well with Hulk saying no to Lotus (beside Ferrari effectively buying third place in the WCC).
Who thinks the McLaren PR team are going to get their bonus this year? Not me.I have an enormous amount of respect for everyone at McLaren, and I want to say a massive 'thank you' to everyone, but most of all to Martin [Whitmarsh, team principal] and his senior colleagues, for giving me this chance.

Jenson’s race-winning speed, intelligence and racecraft have long been a crucial advantage to McLaren, but it’s his skill as a development driver and his peerless technical feedback that will be equally valuable as we make the transition into a new and complex technical formula during the winter and new year.
