2014 Engine yin yang

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Excellent! Ferrari really dishing the propaganda... first the video, they Fry's comments suggesting that Ferrari may have found engine loop-holes. I love it! Hope it's true, but even if its just propaganda, I love it! Anything to make the Mercedes and Renault boys second-guess themselves.

Obviously someone brought this issue to the table and by my method of elimination, it must have been Mercedes or their proxy;

http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns27008.html

This is how I figure;
Ferrari would swing enough to force a change, Renault is typically good with these things, if nothing else Newey makes sure of it,
but MHPE is designing and building their first Formula 1 engine system on their own without Mario IIlen.

Think about it, Mercedes might be overweight from 2014 and on, no wonder McLaren was anxious to get Honda on board asap!

Because the proposal was to raise the limit for 2014, it needed an unanimous vote, but correspondent Andrew Benson said Ferrari, Mercedes and Lotus all declined.
Why would Mercedes decline to raise the weight limit if it is Mercedes who is overweight???

And where has Illen gone?? MBHPE is the old Ilmore.

If they were overweight they would push through the raise to make them not overweight. I say they are under.

Mercedes probably used FI as proxy to take the weight limit to vote, but when they saw it was no chance of a unanimous call,
they of course didn't want to disclose themselves as being fat and ugly by voting for it.

Mario Ilien is long gone, since 2005 after the current Mercedes 2.4 V8 was completed, he's running his own business now;

Haha, this is brilliant pre-season speculation. I also think Nikki Lauda was the man behind the grassy knoll, well, I don't know that he wasn't in Dallas, so maybe it was him. Think about it...

Speculation yes, but for the right reasons. There's nobody at Mercedes or MHPE to take charge of a project of this magnitude
and I'm certain that Frank is already kicking himself for leaving Renault, while Symonds wonders what to do with Big Bertha?

We'll see who is going to look stooopid in three months time, when Hamilton calls the W05 a truck... :lol:

He will probably be back with McLaren in 2015 btw.

Your logic is astounding, as is your spamming of this thread with Mercedes bashing - this is not the comments section of Youtube.

No one the run the project? Are you crazy? You do know the pedigree that Andy Cowell brings to brixworth?
2013 – Managing Director Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains
2008 – Engineering and Programme Director, Mercedes-Benz HPE
2006 – Chief Engineer, Engines, Mercedes-Benz HPE
2005 – Chief Engineer,V8 Engine Project,Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines
2004 – Principal Engineer, V10 Engine, Mercedes-Ilmor
2000 – Principal Engineer, F1Design and Development,Cosworth Racing
1999 – Head of Pre-Development Formula One, BMW Motorsport
1997 – Principal Engineer, F1 Design and Development,Cosworth Racing
1994 – Senior Engineer, F1 Design and Development, Cosworth Racing
1992 – Project Engineer, F1 Design and Development, Cosworth Racing
1991 – Graduate Engineer, Cosworth Racing

career profile:

Following a year out from his Mechanical Engineering degree, spent on the Reynard Scholarship Scheme, Andy Cowell’s career path was set. He joined Cosworth Racing Ltd straight from university on their graduate scheme, rotating through the company’s technical departments, before specialising in the design and development of Formula One engines. By 1999, Andy was leading the engineering project group responsible for the top end of the innovative CK engine, raced by Stewart-Ford in 1999.
After a year spent with BMW Motorsport, where he managed the engineering group responsible for the concept and detail of the 2001 engine used by Williams BMW, Andy returned to Cosworth as principal engineer for F1 design and development, managing the new engine projects in 2001 and 2004.
Andy joined the company then known as Mercedes-Ilmor in 2005, as Principal Engineer for the FQ V10 engine project, which delivered the most race wins of any manufacturer that season. He was then Chief Engineer on the V8 engine project before taking on responsibility for the technical and programme leadership of all engine projects, including the KERS Hybrid which made its race debut in 2009. Andy was Engineering and Programme Director for Mercedes-Benz HighPerformance Engines from July 2008 to January 2013, responsible for technical and programme leadership of all engine and powertrain projects, plus the strategy and organisation of the engineering group.
Since 1 January 2013, Andy has been Managing Director of Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains.
Please less not kid ourselves Ferrari,Mercedes,Honda and Renault all have top notch engineers working for them. Mercedes has 400 people working on the V6 engine even Helmut Marko was surprised by that. Ferrari is and always be about engine building and Renault racing engines speak for themselves, same for Honda. I Think if any manufacturer is quicker its about how the integration(MGU-K/H), driveability and packaging (cooling etc) of the engine. I really don't think that there is going to be a standout engine manufacturer. I rather think that 1 might get it totally from instead of one getting a head of the other 2. The rules about the engine are almost rock solid.

Irvine:"If you don't have a good car you can't win it, unless you are Michael or Senna. Lots of guys won in Adrian Newey's cars, big deal. Adrian is the real genius out there, there is Senna, there is Michael and there is Newey.They were the three great talents."
