funny tweet but scary one at the same time, maybe he's just joking around or is he for real ?

The cynic in me notes the political advantages of making such a public announcement when said drivers team have openly requested cement tyres for next season.

But then i am a diehard cynic. ;)

*edit* tweet now deleted. The cynic in me is feeling so cynical this morning.

Adam Cooper reports the news, too - http://adamcooperf1.com/2013/12/19/toil ... -explodes/

Once again, crappy handling from Pirelli. No daily reports, no press releases, no nothing. Which means: we are going to play hide and seek, just in case we screw up. I understand that strategy, but Pirelli need to become honest as soon as they can, before the large damage is done.

Mercedes backs out of the test. Although Nico didn't crash, the blowout made sufficiently damage to the car to scrap the rest of the test.

Pirell trying to minimise the problems again: "these things can happen during testing". ...

Ups! If this is true than Pirelli most made quick recalculation til 28 January... I believe that they manufacturing process for f1 tires for whole 3 day testing takes at least 1-2 week-s for sure. NOw clock is ticking.. :?

This is really worrying for Pirelli they thought they have fixed the problem going from steel to kevlar belt. Then teams weren't allowed to swap tyres and adhere to camber and pressure limits. All of these measures and still a 2014 tyre blew up, I am a bit concerned for next year. Because there is something wrong about how Pirelli make these tyres. I am now really dying to see how the first test will go and how the tires are going to hold up. I hope Pirelli fails next year and Bridgestone and Michelin strong arm the FIA in changing the regulation and allow 2 tyre constructors in F1 again. That would be the best possible outcome for F1.
Irvine:"If you don't have a good car you can't win it, unless you are Michael or Senna. Lots of guys won in Adrian Newey's cars, big deal. Adrian is the real genius out there, there is Senna, there is Michael and there is Newey. They were the three great talents."

Better now than in the races next year. That's why they test.

I'm glad Nico isn't hurt.

Good to see plenty of hand wringing over something we have absolutely no insight to.

yes, but these are meant to be completely on the side of caution and this test is with the 2013 engines with far far less torque. Its a concern....

What's a concern? We don't know what happened.

We know a tire failed at 320km/h on a straight. 2014 tires that are supposed to be much more durable and handle much more torque.

Unless it was a sniper, a blow-out at 200mph is unforgivable given what's happened so far this year. Pirelli need to be gone IMO - too many chances already.

I know this isn't legally or financially (or operationally, perhaps) possible but damn, who has to be seriously injured before something is done? This is insane.

And we don't know what caused it to fail. For all we know, it was punctured exciting the final corner. But still, carry on .
