Ferrari 2014 Car Pre-launch Speculation

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I don't think so, the "modesty panel" (engine cover) has a trapezoidal shape which is unseen between naturally aspirated engines.
Not to mention that it is too large just for hiding injectors and trumpets.

To be perfeclty honest, Shell's conspicuous presence at the launch gave me a strange notion that I might have been more correct in my predictions of a race between lab-rats than I neither wished nor xpected, this might get ugly.

There is probably not much to learn from it. I even doubt if the showed engine is on 100% scale.

Though it is also interesting they left out the turbo and ERS'. Perhaps they don't want to give anything away concerning placement and such.

How is that any different to a race between engineers? Or different than Shell's (or any other company's) involvement in developing fuels and lubricants on any given year?

I'd speculate it's just a great PR opportunity for an energy company to push the whole efficiency thing, blah blah blah.

Yeah, I think it's a v8 too. Coz in a report, the engine was presented in 3d and they had a recording on how their v6 sounded.

Few days before, Massa was given a 2008 engine as a goodbye, it is not the same engine but it is display on same way. could it be this year engine as farewell ceremony. It is a bit strange that from all the journalists invited only one publish a picture of a real engine, as if the others didn't pay attention. If it was the engine of this year it would be more than just a couple of pics. I believe none of the journalist saw the real engine and this picture is used as illustration.

Attention: We will show you something, well...we wont!...We mean yes yes we will show our new engine...but no, i mean yes but not the engine but...Either you show or you don't. Stupid childish games, not even PR to me. When a man says a word that hell play a sound than he should stick to what he said. Very disappointed at Ferrari.

IIRC the tweet was from Shell, not Ferrari.

AMuS reports Ferrari may currently have a Aerodynamic advantage compared to some of the other teams that will be using Mercedes or Renault Power Units. AMuS talks about the fact in the video of the Ferrari Power Unit launch you can see the Ferrari exhaust is turned upward toward the turbo whereas Mercedes & Renaults have them bent sideways. This could potentially cause overheating issues but more importantly it could provide an aerodynamic advantage. The orientation of the exhaust pipes could allow for a slimmer coke bottle, one that starts earlier than Mercedes or Renault powered cars.

From the 3d powerunit presentation clip, ferrari seems to abort the vertical placed (main)radiators they had in 2012,2013..Aslo rumors suggest that they are going well back to push rod front suspension system..Ferrari looks like going aggresive into 2014 competion..Hope they can be a proper frontrunner next seasson..
