Ferrari 2014 Car Pre-launch Speculation

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

Anyone else think that the 2014 Ferrari will have crazy oversteer when the drivers put the power down more so than any of the other top cars? I say this because the 2013 Ferrari had trouble putting the power down out of corners without any hint of oversteer. And they had the benefit of exhaust blowing (although not as great on the Ferrari as other cars). this year, that will be gone, along with a new engine with MUCH more torque. So i don't really understand how they expect to produce a title winning car, when they didn't really understand their 2013 car?

I don't think so. Probably all the cars will have oversteer. You can't relate the 2013 car handling to their 2014 car. In fact, missing the coanda exhaust effect probably will help every team, because it was especially tricky to setup, and it was always unpredictable. They will have one variable less to deal with, so probably car setup will be much more consistent in 2014. I think the bigger problem will be the rear brakes, because of the new electronic control of the brake balance.

These cars are totally new designs anyway. It's impossible to tell which car handles better, based on the pre-2014 cars.

Chances are though that every team will make changes to the rear suspension in order to gain as much as aero performance out of it as possible, which will compromise mechanical grip one way or another.

AMuS & Piola are reporting the already heard rumor that Ferrari are switching back to push rod front suspension in 2014.

I suppose that idea of these ugly nose tips is to allow more air going underneath the car. And tip is just to fulfill FIA rules.

exactly, these images compared shows perfectly the benefits of these noses; cleaner and more open and easy airflow to other parts of the car [floor]. with possibly the added 'benefit' of less downforce at the nose to help stabalize the car. [the full nose probably will ad just slightly some more downforce, at the cost of downforce at the rear since it'll be harder to direct air towards the floor].

the 'normal' nose is a looker tho, looks so much better then last year's cars.

still i think regulations can be 'improved' to bring the tub down better without the 'smooth' transition from straight to downwards, to improve vision. I remember drivers have been critical at the view from today's f1 cars, being very restricted and hard to judge the car's physical limits [on size]. i don't recall whether this is actually the reason the front was lowered because i remember the intention is to minimize the possibility of a car scooping up into the driver's head/helmet.
anyway, i'd love to see some improvement there and what would be the result in racing terms.

What do you think of this idea, the old Williams FW26 adapted to Regulation 2014?

Firstly I think its in the wrong thread :-D

Secondly it looks like a crossbreed between a walrus and a narwhale :-)

And i think its the same idea as this :

Just with a bit different pylons.

but if they choose the walrus they will get a tunnel more 'great' cause the nose will be 'more' backward

Why are you posting things about nose in this topic? Wouldn't be better to post these things here?
