Mercedes AMG F1 W05

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The front suspension on the W05 impresses me more than any of the other cars. It looks very unobtrusive to flow. Even the brake ducts are in the triangle section the pushrod makes with the upper suspension member and the wheel. All of this attention to detail looks to aid in not restricting flow into the sidepods.

Image
The vortex generators on top of the leading edge of the sidepod line up right with the rear brake wings. There are strakes on the floor that separate this area along with the rear wing mounts and drop-down strakes off of the rear brake wings.

Are those different cooling exits on the sidepods of the Merc? Also - isn't that an extended MonkeySeat that sits quite far behind the car?

I want a 1.6 that sounds like that.

That's the best 'visualisation' of the torque in action I've seen yet too, nice.

I'd say corner10 braking zone? (wheels are turned left a little, look at the steering wheel)
