Mercedes AMG F1 W05

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but what is that flap on the end plate for? Seems like it would induce lift. Thanks!

Guessing a little but I think the flap lowers the air pressure behind it, helping draw air outwards from the wing and around the tire.

It would create a vortex behind it drawing air out from the underside of the wing, probably works the wing harder and draws the air from the diffuser area under the wing around the outside of the tyres?

I'm moving the posts about comparing times and engine to the Sepang thread. Remember guys, the car threads are for what you can touch and see about the car. The usual odd post certainly isn't an issue, but in this case it developed into a discussion, which leads to tyrannic moderation abuse from your f1technical overlord. Life is good isn't it.

Seriously though, do continue the discussion here: http://www.f1technical.net/forum/viewto ... &start=165

No, it's like they can get more information by running two different programs on the two drivers.

They both ran old for long runs, which I expect they'll race.

This, If you look at the runs they did, they where on completely different strategies. They where either on different tires, or different run lengths every time they hit the track.

Not true, work on the option/race sim was identical.
