Touring Car Times wrote:DTM changes regulations to help Mercedes to catch up
The DTM organisation has for the first time in 30 years decided to change the regulations mid-season, in order to allow Mercedes to further develop their struggling C-Coupé model, according to Auto Motor & Sport.
The decision was jointly taken yesterday in a meeting between the DTM organisation, Audi, BMW and Mercedes.
This means that Mercedes are allowed to break the homologation deadline to develop new parts until September 28th, as well as completing an exclusive test day. Audi and BMW will not be granted the same exceptions and have their chassis and aerodynamic features of the RS 5 and M4 models frozen until the end of 2015.
The Mercedes drivers have struggled severely in the first three races of the year, although Christian Vietoris’ was able to take a surprise victory in the rain chaos at Oschersleben. The C-Coupé has been reported to be four tenths of a second slower per kilometer compared to the Audi and BMW.

And this you know how, why would they charge the customers so much more this year if the cost is the same?WilliamsF1 wrote:

The manufacturers are spending the same; only now they are charging a huge sum to their customers who are more than 1
I would say the high prices are part of paying for the engine/power unit (which there are 6 parts to now) and the manufactures recouping some costs for the last few years.WilliamsF1 wrote:xpensive wrote:F1's biggest problem was these new ultra-xpensive engines, an epic mistake, bring back the V8s, or better still the 3.0 V10s

Merc have spent $400M on it? So the proofs there isn't it. It's $400M which would not have been spend otherwise. .xpensive wrote:It's obviously to cover for the development costs of completely new engine technology, where MHPE is said to have spent 400 MEUR.

Nice comment btw, classy.
MHPE, Ferrari and Renault are simply offloading the PU-development costs on their customers, that's how business works.astracrazy wrote:Merc have spent $400M on it? So the proofs there isn't it. for sure, the costs then were ridiculous for little gain. But the teams must of been paying more as well compared to recent V8 times with the amount of engines they were going through at the time?WilliamsF1 wrote:xpensive wrote:And this you know how, why would they charge the customers so much more this year if the cost is the same?WilliamsF1 wrote:

in the days of V10 development would have been same as what we have today.
I don't know the cost today just as I dont know what it was 10 years back
I doubt it, these ERS-systems are xorbitantly xpensive to develop.WilliamsF1 wrote: ...
