Mclaren MP4-29H

So is that design legal? I can't read the article, I understand that represents the Red Bull T-tray, that Podromou has been busy indeed.

Anyway, don't know if bringing heavy artillery to these test where team can't barely put the car on road is good.

The merc engine sounded similar before they changed to the log manifold and i think the rest also will do so because of MGU-H performance and packaging.

Noticed two new jobs advertised at mclaren-jobs.com since Monday:

1. "Electronics Sensor Technician" whose "purpose of the role is to perform detailed and precise assembly, test, servicing, fault investigation and repair of sensor equipment and precision electro-mechanical assemblies used on and off the cars."
2. "Quality Engineer" responsibility includes "conducting root cause analyses for component or process non-conformances followed by immediate containment or resolution actions."

Coincidence?

Why are people over reacting to McLaren's lack of running, they have already stated that this specification engine and the one they will bring to the first test will be completely different, it's any information collecting exercise! they are not chasing times and it is a chance for honda to learn what they can change before the first test next year.

I am sure McLaren would love to get some more lap's under there belt, but after yesterday they still said they class it as being worthwhile, how can anyone else on here say if it is a failure without seeing what they are learning from all this.

And as Boullier said "I prefer this to happen here than in Jerez"

They can't test the engine and they can't test new parts for next season. Some people may say that it is a bad situation, but reading here looks like it is the best test ever made by a team.

Putting the engine on a car and trying to turn it on is something you can do back in Woking. They could have saved some money staying there

Ever other engine supplier had teething problems with new PU, so are they all incompetent?

.... or maybe, just maybe, they've tested everything in the factory and what we're seeing now shows why simulators and test benches are no substitute for track testing?

Err No
Mercedes rolled out the garage at 9am at Jerez first day and only stopped after 18 laps due to a front wing failure. After that they were putting in the laps and HPP were gathering ever more data via FIF1 and WF1.
It is possible to put an ERS system in your transient dyno along side your ICE and check the two work together!

@Skippon: Once again, this is 2014 POST SEASON Testing, not 2015 Pre Season Testing.

@f1rules: Richard pretty much answered this.

We can be worried if this happens in February at the Jerez Test, it is way to soon to doom them now. None of the other 3 Engine Manufacturers ran their PU in a development stage that early. So calm down, i understand it is disssapointing but be patient.

Here are the number of laps completed each day in Jerez this Jan. McLaren didn't run on the first day,and 43 laps on the second day.

We'll need to see how much they get done in 4 days to see if they are as bad as Red Bull were in Jerez. Incidentally RB didn't too badly this year. ;)
