Post anything that doesn't belong in any other forum, including gaming and topics unrelated to motorsport. Site specific discussions should go in the site feedback forum.
Temporary bans are a vital tool to a moderator, and often giving someone a few days to cool down helps them understand how much they value being part of the community. Permanent bans should be an absolute last resort, as even the worst offenders can become reformed characters. I believe from what was said earlier, X still has a way back if he chooses it, so it is not an absolutely permanent ban in that sense.

IF memory serves, I believe X has had a few temporary bans previously.
To answer a few questions, yes this was not considered lightly.
We have banned some members before and each time it is due to many repeated cycles of mod interventions, temp bans and ongoing dialogue. We're happy to discuss anything on this forum as long as it is civil. Our hard limits are personal abuse or aggression towards other members.
As for not seeing why people are banned, it's probably because the posts have been removed or the transgresssions took place in PMs.
As for one incident or another deserving a ban or not, it's like the straw that breaks the camel's back or fatigue failure. It's rare that one event triggers the failure. It's about saying enough is enough after multiple cycles. It's the realisation that if someone is repeatedly saying that they don't like this place then perhaps we'd better call it a day and move on.
I'll say this on the matter, I have had a personal PM of Xpensive before which, instead of taking as a bait, I chose to ignore it because I understand very well people are different and characters are different and thus come with their goods and flaws.
It struck a nerve though when adressing certain behaviour, that includes, essentialy taking up the forum as a ego-glorification, apart from the fact X did have some great posts. In my opinion i've read behaviour of X into something
as only wanting to recieve + likes or +respect just to up his counter and somehow gain the false idea of 'status'.
Openly admitting being bummed he did not invent a certain thread seeing how many people were interested and agreed on the matter ( making it a 'popular thread' ) imho paints a character.
What I've seen from experience is that the mods here are very very understanding and imho have not acted in any inappropriate way. TurboF1 neither, I can vouch for decently dealing with matters. I feel therefore very welcome at this place and I think the mods are doing their job well. People are given several chances here, much more then other forums would and do. I've had my own forum a long time ago (it was a BMW Z1 club forum) and i've been surprised on how people can behave on 'the interwebz'.
I therefore can only conclude the Mods will act appropriately and thus banning a member would be an appropriate decision for the matter at hand. The fact he mods openly adress this certain issue is something I applaud as there is no 'dictatorship' play in the form of banning and slamming everybody who would not agree in the matter. There are enough forums where the rules state you could get a permaban on publicly defying moderator decisions.
I am no saint and i shall never advocate like i am, i have my flaws. Having seen the mods and other members finding a way to overcome flaws and guiding into improving forum participation is something respectable, and absolutely rare in human life nowadays, let alone in something as 'superficial' as a internet forum (talking in general here).

I´ll subscribe to this as well.
Over the past months some threads popped up that was cool but felt like maybe the creation of the thread was for other reasons.
I´d say maybe 5 or 6 of these threads exist now, all filling the same underlying purpose, all with similar concepts.

I it's not like I asked just Portuguese co-workers I also ask Mexicans. It all just goes to show that there is more to it than one guy calling another a S.O.B..
It's a done deal at this point and there is no reason to chew on it any more.
I have had disagreements with some mods in the past and I will miss Expensive and his strange sense of humor but we are not going to change their minds. It's best we move on. There are only two alternatives.. Accept that it is their decision or leave and I doubt they care which we take.

indeed, H.D.P. essentially is a deeper insult than S.O.B. it would be S.O.W. to be more in the same lines [as the last word being Shore but with the S being a W]. However, SOB/SOW, as stupid as it sounds, is more a 'generalized' insult.
Hijo De la P.... is far more profane in ints general intention.
Culture indeed can be concidered 'strange' at times. Even more; Spanish from Spain (catalan) and LatinAmerican Spanish are fairly different to and the Spanish from Spain in general is a bit 'rougher' or 'dirtier' in language, despite it being 'normal' there, and nobody really takes offence in certain words. However, the same words in another spanish-speaking country as Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, etc will be concidered insulting and inappropriate.
Take that to a board and in PM and it could get ugly.
Like the mods said tho, it takes 2 to tango.
Anyway....just shows that these boards can become a good tight pack with a sense of 'comradry' seeing how X's banning has such a 'tail'.

Of which X had the tendency to adress members through PM when they tried to contribute to the very same thread, which i guess he did not like. Seems like he wanted to be the only one there. Apart from that, yes, as been mentioned, not all is bad; but it ever hardly is.

Without trying to hit clichés or prejudging, A Spaniard/Portuguese would take it lighter because they are European and Brazilian/Chilean would take it heavier because they are Southern American.
Note that this is not a claim of any social, psychological or sociological superiority of Europeans, it's pure a cultural difference that reflects on mentality. It's not an absolute either, you'll have a big group of Spaniards being insulted by it and a big group of Brazilians having a laugh with it. It's a different set of values. Each cultural group has that.
It's a big issue in international business where lack of respect for eachother's values leads to bad cooperations.
Again, these things happen, and if anybody now fears that they get permanently banned because of such cultural difference; don't worry, you are not going to be for that. It's an akward situation for everybody. As long as you are both willing and working back towards a mutual understanding, you'll not even get a slap on the wrist.
Like Strad likes to point out but probably not in the sense he is convinced, there is of course more that played into the decision. Outside what happened with Ciro for full understanding. Like Richard said, we kept going in circles with Xpensive. We really tried our best. To put a cold example but one that is understandable: see it as a investment of yours personally. Despite all your work, effort and money you put into it, you can't get it profitable. At one point you have to realise it and back out of it.

Yeah incredible. I actually applaud that. I fully stand behind the decision the moderator group made, but people being saddened and angry because of it means people actually care. That's unusual for any internet group.
I was quite overwhelmed by this 'societic' empathy. It reminded me infact of the reactions on a particular episode of game of thrones (and before we start drawing further comparisons: the moderators aren't after the seven kingdoms!)
I have no interest in making a comment re: actions of certain members etc as I have no issue with either parties, however I will qualify my full support to the moderation team and will continue to contribute to this community filled with (for the most part) intelligent, determined and bright minds.
Let us move forward as a community.
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.
Putting aside what may or may not have been said, I find it incredibly sad that, after the tragic events in France, so many people are willing to applaud the public assassination of a member because he said something that offended somebody.
I have been a member of many forums over the past 15 years and have witnessed at close hand aggressive actions by internet trolls who deliberately seek to destroy an online community. From my perspective, nothing like that has occurred in this instance. Being stupid is not the same thing as being willfully malicious.
My 2 cents and worth precisely what you paid for 'em.
Some men go crazy; some men go slow. Some men go just where they want; some men never go.
Holy crap....what did I miss? This is what I get for sticking to the aero/chassis/engine and car threads.....somebody care to give me the situation in a nutshell in an as unbiased a way as possible?
