The Mercedes AMG F1 Team has confirmed that it will unveil its new car, named the F1 W06 Hybrid on Sunday 1 February, the morning before testing commences at Circuito de Jerez in Spain.
A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.
Not trying to stir anything here, but can you please point me to a discussion in which it was determined whether ferrari is less powerful than the renault or vice versa.
I know that there are lots of different factors for this, but the incident that stood out for me was Alonso trying to pass Will Stevens in the Caterham at Abu Dhabi... Alonso pulled alongside with the aid of slipstream and DRS and then the Caterham just cruised back ahead...
The Ferrari looked like it ran out of grunt compared to the Renault engine.
I've also seen plenty of sources throughout the season speculate that the Ferrari engine is worse than Renault's... it's just that Horner would have you think that the Renault Power Unit was the worst thing to ever sit in the back of an F1 car.
Last year they release some teaser pictures of the car. The year before they had their silly garage retweet-opener, I guess they'll have something this year again to tease us to death until the launch.

No that this proves anything, but Andrew Benson wrote this recently in a BBC article:
It depends on how you define best engine, ferrari certainly didn't have the worst engine. They were ten hp up on Renault but some 40hp down on merc on top end power (figures given to me from an F1 team). Ferrari suffered drivability issues and their ERS probably was the worst, costing them pace in the race as they had to cap it's use.

Did the team also give you a figure about absolute max power output(ICE+MGUK) or compared it with the old V8 saying the new PU has about the same peak power or more or less?
Dear FIA, if you read this, please pm me for a redesign of the Technical Regulations to avoid finger nose shapes for 2016! :-)

Mercedes will first use its v6 2015 in Barcelona
As a consequence Mercedes will be using its 2014 spec for the beginning of the season
15th january 2015 - 15h31, bt Paul Gombeaud
With the engine unfreeze for the 2015 season Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari have the possibility to develop their engines through the year. Only Honda is not concerned about this unfreeze but it will probably change.
Mercedes, which has been dominating the 2015 season and all its competitors could have an advantage in terms of time to develop its engine and improve even more the conception of its 2015 spec engine which will come during may at the Barcelona GP.
Interviewed by a journalist from l’Equipe, Toto Wolff admitted that it would probably be the stategy adopted by his team."But there is also another strategy, a long-term one for 2016"
"As it was planned, this year we will validate some ideas for next year and we will test these ideas in September in order to have big updates for 2016. It gives us more flexibility"
However, Wolff wants its competitors to calm down, saying that Mercedes will also make the most of this engine unfreeze.
" At first glance, we can think that this failure in the regulations helps Renault and Ferrari. On further consideration it enables us to maintain our advantage. In reality the benefit for us will be even bigger"

I think the reason is they were tweaking the engine for optimal performance for the 2015 season, but that was prior the announcement of engine development during the season was made. I think after that announcement was made they probably had to revise their 2015 upgraded engine. So therefor a slight delay in the engine department for them. Look it as taking 2 steps back to make 5 steps forward by Barcelona. I suppose it's minor tweaks that have massive improvement in performance.
So does Mercedes (the engine manufacturer) have to release the same updates to all of its customers at the same time? If so I would think the likes of Williams, Force India, Lotus etc would be following suit with this Barcelona time frame..
How does this affect the engine usage rules? Will they use 1or 2 old spec engines before Spain then only have 3 of the 2015 spec engines for the rest of the season?
