Williams FW37 Mercedes Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Seems like 2014 was the year of the penis noses. In 2015 they have exchanged the penis noses for clitoris noses.

Or the "damn that water is cold" Noses.

I just hope the other Teams come up with something better looking. This is worse than last years Nose.

If this is a common solution then the FIA need to take a long, hard look at themselves... That's 2 rules now where the wording of the rules don't match the wanted intention.

They are only the governing body of a multi-million pound sport after all...
They're a bit busy at the moment trying to figure out how they fudged up the PU rules so badly...
Yea precisely that is the other rule I'm referring too.

Agreed.
Just a fan's point of view

The nose is horrible, even worse than the 2014 solution. Oh FIA, what are you doing with F1....

On the other hand the car looks quite similar, which is not a surprise, anyway it is too early to release the car so I expect a significant change for Jerez.

Anyway I have no doubts that this car will be competitive, lets see if they can improve what they did in 2014, which is a lot takint into account their budget.

Symonds talks about some of the development process of the car here:

The change in regulations offered us a slight headache. The new front bulkhead and nose geometry had much more of an impact than we had initially anticipated and the effect on the aero was profound.
I can't tell from any of the pictures so far, but has the full length undercut of the sidepods been retained?

Higher resolution picture here. Open in a new tab for big.

This one also in big.

They changed the splitter design, in the FW36 (and previous cars) it extended much further.

Sidepods look a lot like late season FW36 at this point.

The splitter has to be 330mm behind the front wheel cenre line according to the rules.

Anyway they took their time to doctor the pictures =D>
Not many details to be seen!

"Sidepods look a lot like late season FW36 at this point"

In my opinion they are much smaller.

As explained here: http://www.f1technical.net/features/19872 , the noses have to extend to at least 850mm forward of the front wheel centreline, which is approximately halfway over the mandatory central front wing section.
It's difficult to judge how far exactly the Williams nose extends, but it looks to be something VERY close to the minimum.

Is it just me or an optical illusion that the rims are from carbon? it kinda looks like it.

1. It's a rendering
2. The rules stipulate wheels MUST be made of magnesium alloy

Probably just a black coating, if it ever will be black on the true car.

Yeah, someone just decided to have them in carbon for the render.
