Scuderia Ferrari SF15-T

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

To me the diver height only" looks" relatively high.
Compared to the RB-11 and W06 the SF15-T has a much lower midriff, most cars look quite bulgy in the section below the intake up to the top of the sidepods.
I think Ferrari has sacrificed sidepod length for a lower waist line.

don't think it has anything to do with the side pods: the top of his helmet is in front of the air intake plus the center of gravity of his head is above the side headrest, making an impact there more dangerous.

we'll see when kimi get's in if its a feature of a flaw

Where is the "centre of gravity" of his head? did you suspend his head to measure the CG?

when you're hit from the side, hit below this point, you head goes "over the edge", if you have support on and above this point, the impact structure works. like you have the headrests in your car too low when you're getting rear ended, but then from the side. better term would be "center of mass" and i think its around the top of your ears.

Headrest and side protection structure dimensions are fixed by rules. Engineers have no degree of freedom here unless they find a loophole to exploit.

Like Williams did in 1996, but I don't think this is the case.

The airflow looks quite good on this pic. No major visible flow separations.

The Ferrari driver rides his steed positioned so his chest is high, his eyes peering over the battle beneath him. Like a king on the battlefield he has to sit high or else he will drop off his horse.

Real stuff. I kid you not.

yes absolutly good compared to F14t. Airflow distribution is homogeneous...hope in engine's upgrade too

The sidepods have more substantial undercut than I thought. And Ferrari using a more curved diffuser edge like last years RedBull while the 2015 RedBull uses a 90 degree corner.

From another forum:
My brother in law was in Jerez today and he just told me that Ferrari engineers were running speed trap tests vs. Williams and, on all 4 measurements, the engineers came out shaking their heads in disbelief how (seemingly) bad the news was. Body language was bad.
Conversely:
Tobias Grüner AMuS @tgruener

Best sectors: S1: RIC 20.016s / S2: ERI 34.293s / S3: VET 28.213s - Topspeed: ERI 290,3 km/h
I hope AMuS and the likes checks this with their usual radar guns measurements on winter testings

The author claims it to be "part of Seb Vettel's FASTEST LAP of the Day":

I guess this might be seen as OT in some sense. Is it alright to be posted here, people?

I'd suggest that they weren't doing top speed runs, but rather doing constant speed runs - they have done this often in the past few years.

please tell me this is a RBR morphed pic
If this is a start or better say a modest start then i feel Ferrari is finally getting on right path.
