Because downforce goes with v2, and that speed is relative to the air, not to the ground. A tail wind of half the car's speed (extreme example) will cut the downforce to a quarter.

It's the same reason why you can stand in front of a car at 1kph and stop it, but would struggle to stop a car at 5kph, and a car at 100kph would barely deviate from its path when it flattens you.

Alonso did not crash because of wind. Can someone please explain the black long mark found prior to the impact with the wall. Multiple days in intensive care!! The long black mark on the track which is not from breaking proves he was tasered by the car. Not a team I would want to drive for. The black mark on track is being reported By rai.

no one said it didn't either. you fail to understand that wind plays a big role in vehicle direction. a big gush of wind does in no way cause downforce to drop at all. downforce remains the same, the car still 'slices' through the same air. however, a gush of wind causes additional pressure on the vehicle, which WILL have effect.

Not true. The amount of downforce the wing generates is 100% dependent on the air speed of the wing (note, not the ground speed of the car). A gust of wind from behind reduces the airspeed of the wing, and in doing so reduces the downforce produced substantially.

which flawed assumption? there is zero information on wind direction. I used side wind to show how much wind effects the vehicle.

The point is that "from the side" is the neutral case which doesn't affect air-speed of the wings. From the rear and from the front does affect airspeed.

Yes, it does. A car running at 90mph ground speed, with a 30mph tailwind has a 60mph airspeed, and because of that loses 56% of its downforce compared to a car running at 90mph in still air, or with wind from the side.
