Cranfield living costs?

Post

Hi all,

I got an acceptance for a masters in Cranfield next year, I'm just trying to gauge living costs before putting a deposit down. Has anyone here studied there or currently live in the area?

Would it be possible to rent a room for approx £300 a month and live on £200 a month? I would be looking off campus in a house share I would imagine.

Any input much appreciated,

Dec.

Hi Dec!

I'm not a Cranfield student but I asked for some information to my university about doing a master there. One of the things they told me was that the best option is staying in the residence/dorms (whatever it is) they have at Cranfield. The reason for that is that the transport to the university isn't very good, so in winter with the snow and stuff is a big deal.

But that's what I've been told. I'm also looking for people to tell me how the university and admision requirements are to see if I can apply.

Good Luck!

why not phone the students union or admissions office at Cranfield? The rent sounds squalid, the daily allowance sounds impractical, to me. Hot tip, if you drink a pint of milk a day, eat an orange, and eat porridge to fill you up, you probably won't die of malnutrition in 3 years. You'll actually get quite fit, as walking to and from the campus each day will keep you trim.

Better yet, why not contact Clive Temple program director, I believe. He has been known to post on this forum, but I don't recall his username. I suspect F1F has it about right, however, Greg too, I suppose, but not the walking bit.

Edit: cranclive, but not since early 2013....

As a recently graduated student £200 to live off per month will be really quite tight. Yes it's possible to scrimp on food but you've got to pay for gas/electricity + TV licence? It will leave you with no 'fun' money and that's important!

I visited Cranfield few years ago, indeed the best/easiest option is to live on-site. They had quite nice accommodation, plus facilities to do sport (not that you would have the time anyway haha), the only thing you have to be aware of is that it is a bit remote to Milton Keynes, but there are busses going there often.

Rent: £350/month per person
Gas and electricity:£30/month (3 people so around £90 for the flat)
Broadband: £10/month (3 people so around £30 for the flat
Mobile phone: £30/month
Food: Around £200/month

I didn't own a car and walked to uni.

I never went to cranfield but was working near to it in ampthill, from what I know as above its best staying on the campus as there isnt a lot around accomodation wise unless you have transport. I lived in bedford and was paying about 450 a month and that was many years ago.
I think you may struggle on a 500quid budget but best bet is speaking to the guys at cranfield, good luck.

Cheers for all the feedback guys,

Been up the walls getting final year project done, so arrangements for next year hadn't entered my head. Yeah on campus accommodation would probably be best bet, but will all hinge on earnings this summer. Will see how it goes. Thanks again for all the tips. Once I get anything sorted, i'll reply back to the thread. No doubt given the forum this is, many more may thinking about the same masters.
