I heard it was €10,000
Well that's an expensive set of tyres.

Suspended, unless they do it again. FIA accepted that it was not intentional and that they did not gain an advantage.

Last year they renewed their past affiliation with Petrobras, however it is only this year that they have switched to them as official fuel supplier.

"Williams hopes to get an advantage over the factory Mercedes Formula 1 team in the future through fuel development.

While Mercedes uses Petronas products in its engines, Williams has a long-term plan to switch to Petrobras."

Petrobras will supply the team with fuel from 2015 onwards, although its logo will start featuring on this year's car and team kit. The deal ties in with the arrival of Brazilian Felipe Massa this year and the start of a new engine deal with Mercedes."

I thought it was interesting that the pace today was almost exactly the same as the pole in the very first race here in 1999.

Still, I expect them to go much faster as they rubber in the track- lot of complaints about lack of grip today.

First link says "long-term plan to switch" which would indicate they are still using Petronas.

Didn't know where to post this, but this is what Bernie said today in Sepang :D : “(Juan Manuel) Fangio would jump from one car to another every year. He never had a contract and just got in the car he car he thought would win. “Stirling (Moss) was the same but he always picked the wrong car!”

1986 1.5 V6 turbo, qualifying up to 1500hp, race 1000hp.... almost 30 years ago

So, pole is likely to be around 1:38.5. That's about 4 seconds off the best ever lap at the track that's probably the single worst for these cars of the entire year.

Meanwhile:
At Bahrain, we can expect to see pole around 1:31 (within a second of the lap record)
At Spain, we can expect around a 1:23 (within 2 seconds of the lap record despite it being an extremely high downforce circuit)
At Monaco, a 1:13 (a second faster than the lap record)
At Canada, a 1:12 (a second faster than the lap record)
At Austria, a 1:06 (2 seconds faster than the lap record)
At Silverstone, a 1:33(within 2 seconds of the lap record, despite it being an extremely high downforce circuit)
...

Basically, we're there or there abouts the lap records. Malaysia is almost the archetypal worst case for the current generation of cars.

Actually I think it's going to be in the 50's, since it's going to rain.

Well that's probably more due to restrictions in aero... They certainly don't lack the power or torque. They are not fast compared to what they used to be, that's for sure.
turbof1 wrote:Very interesting comment from Matthew Carter (Lotus). When asked about Power Unit parity between works team and costumer team, he said that "I can confirm that, having had last year a contract with Renault and this year with Mercedes, it's stipulated in the Mercedes contract that we have complete parity. In the Mercedes contract." He's clearly trying to state there, without actually saying it explicitly, that he did not have parity in the Renault contract.
Wouldn't surprise me one bit as they were overtaken on the straights way too easily by RBR and Toro Rosso to just be difference in corner exit speeds last year. I first thought it might have been lotus using different gearing or something in the way they laid out their ancillaries to the PU. It would make sense though if Renault focused on RBR instead of the defecting slow team...

Those engines have a lot of potential to unlock but the rules need to be changed.

2004 those cars WERE really fast. =P~
