Mclaren & Williams updates

Post

Big news today from both mclaren and williams. Williams will bring a revised car to France. Most of the improvements will be aero, they have been working on them in two windtunnels. The car will look different, one of the top figures said. This could mean the ugly nose's time has come.
Mclaren on the other hand announced they will bring a new version of thir engine to france, and then an even better one to Hockenheim. They promised improvements on both reliability and performance. On Hockenheim we will see a lot more powerful engine. This increases mclarens hopes a little. There was also some talk of the new body helping the engine, didn't reveal much more on that.
Hopefully somebody will have something more to say on this, a little more detail perhaps?

Well i guess this puts an end to the speculations about MP4-19B's engine. I guess this is what Kimi referred to when he talked about "shortage of parts" being a problem with the new car.

Mercedes is going to have to put in solid hours to reach ferrari and BMW. Mercedes has about 520 hp, so at the moment they are lacking some 30-40 horses. This is the situation now, but ferrari and BMW will also develop their engines, so i doubt mclaren is going to get to the same level as they are yet this year.

Thats very nice, but my car has 220 hp so is it half as powerful as an f1? I'm afraid you've got it a little wrong. I would say about 400 hp off. But don't worry, that's not too much. More like ferrari 915+something, mercedes just a tad over 900.

It is crazy for Mercedes not to upgrade their engine. They should have done it races ago.Under-powered,over-weight,unreliable.I do hope the engine will be getting better as the race goes by.

Mario Illien is now in control of illmor so we should expect several upgrades to the engine for the rest of the season.

But he is thinking about retirement as early... or rather late as next year.

Their engine has too many problems, only a redesign engine can solve all of them (hopefully) -- my point of view :)
I'm in the red car.

Is the shape of the front wing different...It seems to protude out in the centre. Has that always been there?

So, why are the new front wing setup to create lift instead of downforce. Are they trying to direct more air into the radiator inlets?

Oh no! It just got uglier! :D

If the new wing is setup to force air into the radiator ducts, why are the endplates on the "wrong" side? ie. encouraging low pressure buildup.

hey sas, are you talking bout the front wing itself or the small turning vanes above the front suspension?? insteresting that they didnt include the small wing on the airbox that Ferrari and Renault have been using to smooth out airflow to the rear wing..
