I think the usa GP made it quite clear why mercedes and ferrari won't give RBR a competitive engine
the weather negated their power advantage and immediately the bulls were quicker than they were even with their underpowered cars .....with equal power they would have been off into the distance !
to the optimist a glass is half full ; to the pessimist a glass is half empty ; to the F1 engineer the glass is twice as big as it needs to be

RBR were using a high DF setting for the wet, so better in the first part of the race, worse at the end. Sure Renault is not as powerfull as merco's one, but engine seems to be smooth and deliver power at low rev (driveability), and not so bad in "slow" tracks.

Don't be so sure. Redbull made a mistake staying out the first real safety car, than Ricciardo got hit by Perez which ruint his race.

Perhaps, we should compare RBR to STR pace lap per lap to try to sort this...

I would supply Red Bull their engines as a manufacterer, with a large emblem on the engine cover. They still have a great chassis and winning, if anything, last weekend was thé case to supply Red Bull as a non-mercedes team.

Why would anybody supply redbull?

If redbull win they will rub it in your face.

If they lose it will be because you didn't supply them equal engines and favoured the works team.

Whats the upside?

Foxhounds problem is that he's stuck in a circular argument since page 34. Back on page 34 of the RedBull thread, he openly argued that Mercedes was not afraid of supplying RedBull with engines. On those pages or there abouts within that time frame, there were various conflicting messages from Toto and obviously the higher up board that entertained the idea'...
Actually Phil,

Your problem. Is that you are biasing this entire crisis to one team.
Namely Red Bull.

The major problem today is one of cost. And Red Bull don't care about cost or they would have adhered to the RRA.

There are reams and reams of literature from Mercedes, Lauda and Wolff that all say Mercedes were at some stage interested in a supply deal, but that Mateschitz had to drop his long running fued with Merc, negotiate an exit with Renault who are Daimlers industrial partners, and come up with a sponsorship strategy that was symbiotic.
None of this happened.

So what I wrote, the dog woofed, the chicken crowed is completely and utterly irrelevant to what actually happened.
You would do well to understand this forum is not tied into creating events from scripture.

So in effect all teams bar Red Bull have proclaimed happiness with supply and performance of their PU's but want the costs addressed. I even linked 6 independent teams quotes to prove it.
This does not equate to upsetting the whole system to appease one team.

Cost is the issue. And this needs to be addressed, the rest is just biased nonsense.

Renault supplies RBR (payment required) _but_ gives them 35 M€ a year to have the infinity trademark (so engines are more than free of charge). Nobody want to supply them.

What you are basicly saying, that if you would be a wealthy sports fan, who is willing to invest 600 Million in the sport, hire the best designers, engineers and drivers. But never will be able to win the championship, for the simple reason you are not a manufacturer? And you are k with that.
Yep, because I'm well aware of how F1 has, and will continue to work. It requires an excellent working relationship between people in the three major F1 disciplines, Namely chassis, aero, & engine.

RBR's primary problem is that they have always had a prickly relationship with who ever is building engines. Even if they had their own in house engine department I'm sure the relationship would be barely tolerable, because Newey thinks aero is the only thing that matters.

RB was losing out 2 or 3/10s in the tow with drs on the start finish straight alone. Even when merc in front didn't have it. Also speeds are not high enough there for aero to matter that much.

Spot On, that's why the Russian was saying he was confident they could win in the rain.

RB set up was entirely compromised in the dry, due to a wet setup.
This is proven from the fact Torro Rosso were further adrift in the wet, closed the gap to Red Bull in the dry, and eventually beating them easily.

With the same engine!

+1 on what Foxhound said. If RB are so good "if only the engine..." then why are STR matching them in engine-neutral situations?
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

yeah, that's current situation. Now the only thing RB wants and needs is a good power unit. They'll take any condition, just as long as it isn't a lower-spec engine.

I as an engine supplier wouldn't mind and jump ship. You can get good money out of it.
How's this for a slogan "Good aero can't go without a great engine. XXX official supplier of the Red Bull F1 team"
or "Good aero can't go without a great engine. XXX taking Red Bull F1 to the top step again" ...

It's not really comparable, but in my own business I make quite a lot of money supplying parts to people no-one else wants to supply. Often not asking you to go the extra mile and very grateful.
