A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I can see them talking about the usual stuff for this time of te year, you know how was the turkey, the 2015 vintage wines, the cakes, the radius of the new turbine propeler, deployment and that kind of stuff....

Well..........lot's of great Japanese New Year's food and beer and sake. Actually probably too much beer and sake. My daughter took my nephew's kids to Disneyland today, the women went shopping and we just came back from a 3 hour drive cruising up and down PCH. We took out my Miata which has a Honda J32 motor stuffed into it. My nephew got a kick driving the car as speed limits are enforced much stricter in Japan and not too often he gets to drive a LHD car. Off to Encinitas a little later to the best IMO sushi in all of the western US.
Even though he got a little tipsy last night, not much was said last night or today that we didn't already guess or speculate. They have been feverishly working on resolving and coming up with several solutions to the whole ERS/MGU-H issue since last summer. They think they have the "fix" stemming from a new turbocharger, MGU-H, completely redesigned electronics and plumbing of the intake, (still air to air as of now), although water to air intercooling was/is being considered. Very pleased with the new ICE. Cooling not an issue, excellent reliability expected, staff at Sakura increased by 20% and budget increased by an unknown amount but a lot. That seems to be it until I get more sake into him tonight. HaHa....
Happy New Year to everyone. 2016 is the year of the monkey. Last time it was year of the monkey, Jenson and Takuma drove BAR to 2nd in constructor's title behind Ferrari.

Thank u Wazari for this insight and some good news overall =D> Its so nice to hear some first-hand informations which are not tailored by the PR department.
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows
Thank u wazari for the news,,, but honestly 2nd constructor isnt enough for me,,, they need to be contender ,,, f1 now so bored with the domination of mercedez

Isn't that all of us?
But given how awful last year was I'll settle for getting back into Q3 consistently for now
Fernando Alonso has mixed feelings at McLaren. Spanish pilot would love to sign for Mercedes, the team that has dominated Formula 1 in 2014 and 2015, but is also hopeful about the benefits of the new McLaren MP4-31. In the British team are delighted with the car next season and Alonso have informed that run about two seconds faster than the 2015 return.
The new McLaren can run two seconds faster cars and the other, between half a second and one second. With these data, Alonso has reason to dream of a successful season. With podiums and victories. With titanic struggles with Mercedes and Ferrari. http://www.diariogol.com/es/notices/201 ... -56722.php
sounds like mclaren are on target for podiums
One question that is not particularly specific to the new engine, and so may be answerable in general terms is : how did the issue from last year's engine not get picked-up in pre-season dyno testing ?
To a non-expert in engine design it would seem that such a fundamental issue should have been very apparent by simulating laps of various cicuits. The only thing I can think of, off the top of my head, is reliability issues meant running at less than previously dyno'd settings (lower turbocharger speed or something like that). Even that seems a bit odd, did in-car installation show up issues never seen before leading to having to reduce recovered energy ? Would love to know !
Of course if the nephew can't say, he can't say ... don't get him in trouble !
Because you don't simulate for the engine you've built, you simulate for the one you think you can develop it into. They probably made great figures if they could have sorted out the bearing and seal issues for higher rpm turbine/compressor/MGU-H operation.
