i am bit worried , Arai's departure i hope is not the outcome of failing to deliver a "competitive engine" for this year. after yesterday's assessment "boullier" was not pleased and overall mclaren did not seem overexcited . this less impressive start might have sealed Arai's fate. i will eagerly wait for alonso's comment after today. he might decide not to compete in this season if it is not promising at all.

Does Honda have any financial issues?

C'mon guys, this is the second day of the first test. Each team is testing differently at the moment. I'm sure McLaren are just doing their own thing at the moment. In case some of you missed it, Arai is becoming Honda's head of R&D and Jenson was beaming with how much better the car was. Also, they're not running with the updated PU until next week, so they're probably just testing out the PU and MGU-K to see how long it will run under different settings now.

In the words of Rob Smedley, "F1Technical baby, stay cool! We're testing reliability at the moment"

Arai is 59, the standard Honda 'retirement' (or promotion) age is 60 for people at his level +/- a year. Don't read too much in to his leaving just yet, although the timing is interesting.

I'm going to go find images of him at the first test in 2009 and see what percentage-beam he's at this year :)

If you want to search his bio information search 長谷川 祐介.

Go to FOX Motorsport's Facebook page and there's an article second one down where the thumbnail is Jenson grinning from ear to ear.

Based on this article near the end of 2015 about the ICE / deployment deficit...

http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/analy ... -headache/

...and Button saying yesterday that the deployment issue has been solved, we must have hope for the start of the season.

ok, other teams have pushed on but for sure the McLaren will be further up the pack. Testing is testing and I reckon Melbourne can only be the place to know where the team stands. I don't think any low fuel/full power testing has been done yet.

Anyone else just sort of quietly pleased with the McLaren Honda lap count and steady tests these past two days?

I expected one or two big problems but it appears they do have a foundation to work on and have pleasantly surprised me with 200+ laps!

Like everyone, I'd love to know exactly what they are testing but Alonsos expression today to me suggested a team on track, and gradually on the up. Big 6 days ahead but then that was always going to be the case. I hope the new parts prove as reliable and that they can begin to optimise performance.

It will be interesting to see if they maintain that reliability when they switch to the other PU for the 2nd test.

Oh yee of little faith :D
Good question though.

I'm "hoping" they will be ok reliability wise, and there's nothing to suggest they wont so far, but overall pace will be the deciding factor in my books.

If they don't have anything to show in the next test I fear it will be another year of pain.

Interesting interview by Alonso to Autosport
"We've been quite successful at the moment, and then laptime-wise of course it's not realistic where we are," he said.

"We haven't shown our cards yet, we're still holding back.

"The car is quick, but of course the opposition also seems to be quick, so how quick we are nobody knows for now."
