All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

What are some benefits to having a large(r) air box that way?

Hi guys,

I've been a member of this site for aaages, and recently got to interview Andy Cowell about the PU106 engine. It's probably not as in-depth as some of the great stuff on here, as it's actually for a technology publication, but I thought it could be of interest.

Here's a link if you're interested: http://www.alphr.com/cars/1002748/how-m ... est-engine

Mercedes posted this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cx4HMSNx_MY
about their combustion process, and it looks to have another 3 parts coming!

By my calculations based on what he said, the combustion pressure looks could be very close to 500 bar indeed, depending on what kind of elephant you employ as a tester!

500 bar is the injection pressure limit..... you may want to recheck that combustion at 500 bar info

500 bar injectors does not equate 500 bar combustion pressure.

If they are using 5 ton elephants, the peak cylinder pressure is 400 bar.

Some are guessing that the Merc PU is crossing 1000 HP now.

MERCEDES PACE AND RELIABILITY DISTURBS RIVALS
According to Bild newspaper, some insiders suspect that Mercedes has pulled ahead of the field thanks to its latest engine, which may have cracked the 1000 horse power barrier.

Team chairman Niki Lauda denies it: “At our level, there are no huge horse power jumps like that. Ferrari and Red Bull have more room for improvement than us.”

Red Bull’s Helmut Marko adds: “Over the whole distance it would not be 1000hp, but perhaps on a fast qualifying lap.”

Note how big the MGUH is. And how thick the turbo shaft is. Also it is located far fromt the turbo as many expected.

Those graphics are just that (pretty graphics) and bare hardly any resemblance to what's going on inside the areas you cant see. Don't take any information about dimensions or design from those videos.
