Williams FW40 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Floor next to the rear tires looks especially underwhelming. 100% just a simple mockup, and nothing like what will actually be raced come melbourne.

Narrow sidepods despite wider versions allowed. Engine cover conspicuously size-zero-esque behind cockpit padding & around fin

Yes it's a simplified render but there are many small details that are quite original/interesting, like the winglets on each side of the cockpit (nothing new) that are swept forward (quite new) etc.

No conjoined lower wishbone, top wishbone still very high & presumably with trackrod inline. Although then the rack appears to block s-duct?

That airbox is huge related to FW38. Similar shape and divided like W07

Can everyone please keep to topic, because as soon as someone takes the turning, it's nearly 3 pages before someone decides to turn the wheel back.

The splitter/plank has been shortened, making it easier to add rake to the cars. Still, expect a LOT of development on the floor. This is merely the base they are showing.

I think he meant the angle of the floor towards the chassis, not the rake. Very interesting.

I've got to be honest, I never thought any team was going to take up the option of wider sidepods since the packaging requirements inside the car weren't going to change it didn't make much sense to me.

From increased width overall of the floor and track anyone keeping their sidepod width as before would automatically get whatever benefit Sauber tried to conjure a few years ago with their ridiculously slim sidepods.

I'm probably missing something.

There is a black line that almost looks like a slot above Randstad and behind T camera. It doesn't belong to the livery, I wonder what this could be. Testing cant come quick enough, I need pics of the real car hehe

It looks like the beam wing is missing or only shown partially in certain rear photos.

No beam wing allowed this year, so naturally the car is not going to feature one. More can be found and discussed here: http://www.f1technical.net/forum/viewto ... =6&t=23606

My mistake, too. The initial rules proposal had the beam wing coming back, I don't know why they ultimately deciding against it. I thought we were going to get rid of those awful supporting pillars...
