Red Bull RB13 TAG Heuer

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

There isn't much undercut on the sidepods. In recent years it seem to be de-rigueur to have the base of the sidepod under the radiator inlet to be narrower than the inlet, and then continue to be narrower at the floor than the cooling tunnel that vents around the upper wishbone.

The RB13 does are this trait. Is the whole package so tightly wrapped that they have basically done away with most of the cooling tunnel and just have the small exit vents at the wishbones?

There is no undercut at all at the 'dB' of RedBull

About the open nose:

It' looks like it's not parallel to the ground, like the car is built to run with more rake

Lol, certainly not to a level to get it parallel.

Both of them are RB... one is RB12 other is RB13

Ohh I see what they're doing. They've seem to follow the efficient low drag philosophy. They rely on trickery underfloor and diffusor performance to generate most of the downforce, while beeing super slick on the straights. We know they are the kings of difusor super arrangement.

Yes....every single team is also doing that, so I would assume that's what they're doing

No they aren't. Look at Mercedes as an extreme example. So different. They have a good engine, just put as much wings and stuff above the car, brute downforce which is more reliable rather than chasing complex ground effect difusor tricks. Mercedes don't rely too much on the Diffusor perofromance. To some extent I see Ferrari doing something similar to Mercedes, although not as much.

They all extract as much as they can from the floor and diffuser. All.

Just a reminder to post about what is actuall on the RB13, rather than bringing Mercedes etc into the thread.
Thanks.

They have had those before, I don't think they would be allowed (or even useful) to be running all the way from the front, they are fortex generators.
