I completely agree with this.ollandos wrote:mclaren must buy manor or other second team ...and make a deal with porsche or audi or bmw even ilmor-ricardo for new engine ..to ready for next year ...honda spend 3 years for nothing ...they know from 2014 what the best engine is (mercedes) and its work ..and after 3 years they cant take nothing ...honda culture and work way cant hit the f1 standar...mclaren need european parthner ...maybe ricardo-ilmor engine with mclaren hydrid system can do better job ...than honda and faster .....honda from the very first day it was necessary to run parallel program with mercedes style engine ...to find differents and solutions for they ideas ....they dont doing this they dont wond personels from other and only spend a time for disaster......after 3 years unacceptable start this season ....i think game is over for honda...if mclaren want to be top team again must go on with out honda....
I was thinking about using quicker to produce materials or even 3D printing. Even if it is heavier, they could atleast start testing in full force.bauc wrote:40 laps today, without really any push, just installation laps and driving the car like walking on eggs. My question is, even if Honda redesigns the fuel tank, how much time does it take to produce it and deliver it to the track in Barcelona, would there be a fix even for the next's weeks tests? Will that new tank fit in the chassis?
Mclaren need to build more cars to spend on the F1 teamwunderkind wrote:
Zak Brown has a lot to worry about from what we are seeing at the moment. He must find a way to arrest the decline before it becomes terminal, or Tyrrell. I'd let Alonso go at the end of this season and use the money to fund the 2018-19 cars. If that don't work out, Zak, Mansour, and other co-owners may have to sell the F1 team to BMW as they have started working together on road car engines, but BMW don't seem too keen to get back into F1 or beaten by Mercedes.

Maybe it's better to have a "slightly broken" engine to find its flaws, figure why they happened and design something better for the next attempt, than an engine blowing with unrecognizeable pieces flying everywhere.noxroxafox wrote:They just need to have their priority's sorted. The car itself is good, at least by her looks. Honda needs to step up their pace and start taking risks in letting their engines run at full strength. Its obviously not good to run their engines at low performance, you can better see what breaks and why it breaks on full force. Maybe it is just me though, however I always believe in knowing why stuff breaks, not mend something that breaks slightly. (Of course, everything considered makes this statement a little less hard and out of place, but I wanted to say it anyway)

My guess is that they're made from metal with only a CF casing. I don't know much about carbon fiber, but I don't think it would be the best material to store hot liquids.daren_p wrote:turbof1 wrote:bauc wrote:

Looks like they are typically made from carbon fiber. Would expect making a new one in carbon would take some time, but as you say, maybe they could make one from aluminum, etc as a temp solution?
