I could be wrong but i think they feed the radiators.ENGINE TUNER wrote: ↑25 May 2017, 21:10Please help.
Is there a general consensus as to what the air inlets on the top surface of the side pods are for? What do they feed/ what is their purpose and what advantage do they provide?
Please answer in simple non aero-geek language.
Please and thank you

Or.......The upper inlet is compartmentalised (arrows), encapsulating the airflow it receives, and either cools something other than the radiator (i.e. ERS coolers or electronics) or aerodynamically assists the radiator.

Its simpler than that. They basically have a rear wing slapped on in the middle of the car near it's centre of pressure. So huge downforce gain right there. There are other benefits of course, but these aren't as pronounced as the fact there is a bi plane wing in the middle of the car.paddyf1 wrote: ↑25 May 2017, 21:39Or.......The upper inlet is compartmentalised (arrows), encapsulating the airflow it receives, and either cools something other than the radiator (i.e. ERS coolers or electronics) or aerodynamically assists the radiator.

If i am correct- back than they said it was a direct influence from Rory Byrne.. does someone know what Byrne did on this current SF70H car? Could these sidepods come from him?

There is a post answering your question somewhere in this thread. Some say it was conceived by rory bryne. There was sketch by giorgia piola of a Ferrari with wings in fron the side pods back in 2013? (was it?). So the idea was on the back bench in Ferrari for some years now it seems.
