Mercedes was faster in sectors 1&3, but Vettel with the Ferrari was butchering Hamilton in s2. Thus, Hamilton could never get a proper attempt with the DRS.
How much has that to do with damaged diffuser?

I don't know, but Ferrari changed the front wing on Vettel's car so his car wasn't damaged.

At the rate Hamilton and Vettel closed on Bottas I'd say very little, the damage did look minor. It wasn't the damage (minor) or even the contact with Vettel that cost Hamilton the race it was one of those silly errors all teams do at some stage.

On public roads, dangerous driving comes with a mandatory 1 year ban with an extended retest, and the chance of a custodial sentence.

What a good race, Seb gives Lewis a wake up nudge and the brit media melts down... Blind justice at the end... I could not make out Ham's radio, dit he ask the team to get Botas to back Seb up into him? Why?

A very sad and sorry state of affairs in F1 these days. The safety car being used as a pawn to spice up a normally dull race leads to chaos. Then a driver clearly uses his car as a weapon, and gets a slap on the wrist. The lead drive pits for safety reasons and then at the same time the dangerous driver gets a penalty that just happens to bring him out next to his rival...

This isn't pure racing, this a circus act. Utter utter trash. Without free to air coverage after 2018 this sport is finished.
Bit of an exaggeration, if you look at the Replay, you see in his anger he gets next to Hamilton and raises his fist, as that happens the car veers into Hamilton accidentally. So the penalty he got was enough. Hamilton should have got one for brake checking Seb.
Pretty much this.

Yeah there's that. We don't know if the diffuser was damaged or not though.

One question
Why didnt Mercedes change tyres when they pitted Lewis?? Surely there where 2 sets left from qualy which just did 4 laps. Moreover the headrest change required 9.3 sec so why didnt they change tyre simultaneously??

That way he could have come up to 2nd in the final moments

New tyres weren't quicker it seems, scrubbed were better. Pirelli have been very conservative with the compounds this year, they are simply too hard and it's very difficult to keep the temps up.

But still with 18 laps to go he would have made huge gains and could have had tyre differential to Vettel and could have overtaken him easily
