Last year we knew the Mercedes could do the race distance with 10kg less fuel than the others. 10kg is worth .3 seconds which was the gap to Ferrari more or less. The engine advantage Mercedes has over the others at this stage is fuel consumption and reliability than just out and out power. Perhaps the others can match the power, but just not as long. In other words the reliability and efficiency take a toll. Renault is considering doing 4 engines for perhaps this reason.
If that was true about the fuel, remember at the half way point in a race the advantage would only be .150 and at the end of the race their would be no advantage. I remember Merc being stronger at the end of races. And I remember Ferrari being strong at the start of races.

Depends, if you don't have to turn the engine down at all during the race that in itself is a huge advantage, it's why Vettel lost touch with the Mercs in Abu Dhabi.

My guy does his yearly analysis again to determine the pecking order. I know he is a member here.

People forget that Barcelona is high-downforce circuit and start predicting according to that. It is RBs circuit and if they are closer to Ferrari then expect Ferrari to be ahead of them on other circuits. Similarly Barcelona is not Force India's circuit they don't design their aero according to this circuit. Haas will perform good here as does Renault & Mclaren, come Aus GP we'll see some predictions getting completely wrong.

Here is my prediction, for Aus GP :
1). Mercs
2). Ferrari
3). RB
4). Renault/Haas
6). Force India/Mclaren
8). Williams
9). Torro Rosso
10). Sauber

Remember Renault, Mclaren & FI are accepted to make improvements as season progresses. Haas does look like last years Ferrari but thats all they can offer at the start of the season, as it passes they'll fade away at back of the grid.

Pecking order till Spainese GP :
1) Merc
2) RB
3) SF
4) SFI/Renault
6) Mclaren
7) Haas
8) Williams
9) TR
10) Sauber

Amazing job! =D> =D> =D>

Anyway, I hope he is wrong and both Ferrari and RB are much closer than expected. [-o<

1 Ferrari (yes, you read that right; Vettel will emerge as #1 in team by Baku race 4)
2 Merc (Hamilton may still win WDC if Bottas plays second fiddle early enough in the season)
3 Red Bull (Ricciardo will still have the measure of Verstappen in points)
4 McLaren (mainly because of Alonso)
5 Force India (drivers are very strong)
6 Renault (because drivers are better than Haas)
7 Haas (car is at least the equal of Renault because of strong Ferrari engine)
8 STR (drivers better than Williams)
9 Williams (utter crap driver line-up)
10 Sauber (despite engine parity with Haas, and factory Ferrari gearbox, could jump two spots forward on strength of engine)
