Hi, my name is Chet :D.

I saw your post on 'the final project' topic. You said about designing a nose cone.

Is it just a drawing, or a real nose cone? Also you meantioned windtunnel and that your uni has one, which uni do you go?

Im 16 and looking to study aeronautics at Uni, is that what you do?

Cheers (i would have sent PMbut not a member yet  )

LoL seems to me that this was a private message!!!

Well...I'll answer it here in case someone also has the same question!

Well first of all I study in a university in Portugal....Universidade da Beira Interior. I study aeronautical engineering (my university is the only to have it besides the airforce here in Portugal, IST has aerospacial enigineering).

My university has the second biggest wind tunnel in Portugal and a supersonic one (though I've never seen it work).

About the project it really depends on what your project is....if you design a airplane you'll just study it aerodynamicly probably only using CFD. If you develop a landing gear probably you won't build it it will only be a design/study project using FEA,CFD,etc. A friend of mine who graduated this year developed a jet engine for remote control airplanes from a camping gas can! :) ...in my case developing a nose cone using a baseline one is do-able in terms of wing tunnel...probably I'll do complete CFD test first to decide which ones I'll be using in the wind tunnel....but I still have 3 years before the project so I might think a little more on it.

If you have any more questions...just ask

Cheers :D .

As i said im still only 16 years old, and looking to do aeronautics at Uni, but i live in England, and know of 1 uni that does aeronautics - Southampton, which is quite far from me  .

Is it a hard course? How much do you need to know (aero wise)? Coz i think i know a good deal for my age  . And am i right in saying you study thermo-dynamics aswell? Is the course mainly aircraft based, or is there some mention of Motorsport?

Cheers Chet

Well at my uni it doesn't mention a thing on motorsport. And most uni don't do it....try looking up Cranfield, Southampton and Imperial College.

Yes we have thermodynamics....we have alot of math and physics.....in Portugal we only start studying stuff related to airplanes in the 3rd year of the 5 year degree....and only the 4th and 5th years are 100% airplane wise (though in the last year we do have european economy and bussiness managment).
