It will keep being brought up though. Even Vettel himself has buried the idea and it hasn’t stopped.

Read my post directly above yours. I agree with you with regard to it needing to stop however until the point I’m making sinks in it won’t stop.

It was not me who mentioned the tyre topic here. :) It was Big Tea and I neither think he is a Ferrari fan (I guess that's what you meant with me and my pals), nor do I think that he has any problems with Mercedes. :)

I am not a Ferrari fan, and the question was not team specific. Although most fanboys did not even seem to read the question

That quote doesn't debunk anything though. Ferrari "probably" have been worse with normal tires according to Vettel, but that doesn't prevent Mercedes from benefiting from modified tires more and hence relatively much better of with the special tires compared to competition.

So if you're theory is correct, after the British GP Pirelli will only bring "normal" tires and Mercedes will no longer benefit, Ferrari will win all remaining races and win the championship. In other words, Ferrari can only hope the Mercedes is quicker simply because of the tyres.

Yea, well, I think that it's a good basis to have everything as usual/known (in this case tyres and track) to be able to compare two teams the best as possible.
I didn't mention Mercedes being suited by the others tyre, though.

The mystery of the thinner tyres is an easy one?

They are used on specific tracks because of those track characteristics. The tracks require high aero efficiency and power which plays perfectly into Mercedes hands.

Pirelli scrapes a hair off the tyres and all of a sudden mercedes is faster by 3 seconds. Oh please.

To post some numbers 0.4mm are about 12.5% of the tread depth of the tire, so not just a thin hair

They are used because of a specific brand of tarmac not corner characteristics.

Anyway... Austria will be another one stopper and you won't even need to run the harder tire.

Off topic question: How much do cars lose time from mass and air resistance form HALO? Any approximation known? How much mass does HALO actually have?

Cars became 5 kgs heavier this season, i expect the halo is around that...

The Halo weights a lot more: "teams have found that the Halo and its mountings can weigh up to 15kg"
