2018 Austrian Grand Prix, Spielberg, 29 June - 1 July

For ease of use, there is one thread per grand prix where you can discuss everything during that specific GP weekend. You can find these threads here.

you also need to take into account that they are placed where suspension is already on its limit with loads (place where gasly crashed)

Vettel doing again now in FP2 a stint on Ultras, very stable around 1:08.5. Just like someone on this thread mentoined about FP1.

Anyone knows where I can see all the lap data after a session? So little information I can find on the stints during Free Practice...

I am not sure I am always on board with taking the best sector times for a given driver and then saying that is the fastest lap that person could have done if they strung it all together. I think many times there is give and take within the course of a qualy lap. If someone pushes too hard early in the lap they are more likely to sacrifice time towards the end because the tires are worked harder early on. Saving the tires at the beginning could yield a better middle and/or final sector. I am sure the teams and drivers talk about the best way to maximize performance over a single lap regarding tire management.

Could Lewis have found another .3s, maybe. Maybe his lap was the maximum that could be achieved as well. Maybe there was even more to be found...assuming that combining all the personal best sectors is the theoretical best lap isn't quite as simple as is sometimes taken for granted. Just my $.02.
Just curious, did those $.02 cents came from the first paragraph or you extracted that from final paragraph :D :D .
$.01 from each paragraph
So you never pushed you limit, just like F1 drivers these days :)

Everyone is on ultras. I noticed RB tyres looked bad during long run on VER car

Those bargeboard winglets are still loose on HAAS

Yea, the Ultras aren't looking like a good race tire at the moment. They are just getting chewed up and spit out by the track.

Will we see rain? Really dark clouds around and I think there were some drops in FP1 but very very briefly.

I'm not yet convinced about ferrari's race pace because on fast laps mercedes easily the best at this time, with a high consistency no less.

Actually the Ultras looked like good tyres. Vettel started on 12 laps old Ultras and was constantly doing mid 08s. On his 11. lap he still did a 08.6.
RBR was much slower. I don't know why.

Ted told that the reason Mercedes' mirror mounting is allowed is that it might be structural whereas Ferrari's solution surely was just to gain aero performance. What kind of a ridiculous argumentation is this? :)

One that meets the letter of the rules, perhaps, rather than obviously being nothing other than an aero part.

Ferrari's definitely was not structural, it only had one mounting point to the halo, but two arms. Mercedes has 3 arms and 3 different mounting points.

Mercedes are very clearly taking the mick though. I can't see the FIA allowing it beyond Silverstone otherwise where does it end?

I missed the sessions guys, how did Kubica's time relate to the other 2? was he running or following an unrelated program?
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.
