Was that the case in the last 3 qualifyings?
Absolutely valid point. I just think a wet quali would bring out the best in Hamilton.

I also think that somehow, Merc's car tends to perform a little better with the taller wet/intermediate compound tires. It seems the slightly taller tires pair well with the rake of the car.

I believe either Ant or Paul caught on to the fact that the Merc starts to get some separation from the field on those compounds on a green, cooler track.

The Ferraris tend to like rubbered in tracks and hot conditions. Which is one reason that I think the Ferrari always gets stronger over the course of a weekend (track evolution). While all cars benefit from track evolution, Ferrari always seems to eke out a bit more.
It doesnt make any sense what you are saying, temperature evolution during weekends might go from hot to cold and vice versa.

If anything the performance of the mercedes last year in monza was largely due to lewis performance rather than mercedes being tood on those tyres.

Furthermore this year we have a longer wheelbase ferrari which is behaving a much different than last years model.
Dude, you have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm talking about track evolution - how much rubber and grip the track surface accumulates.

Nothing about temperature. Good grief.

The GPS data showed again, that Ferrari is mighty on the straights at the moment. Even if the top speed difference in the end is only 1.8 km/h to Sebastian Vettel and 3.9 km/h to Raikkonen.

But the direct speed comparisons also show: Vettel and Bottas each came out of curve 2 at 100 km/h. In the initial acceleration phase the Mercedes can still briefly keep up. From the moment that the acceleration is determined solely by power, the Ferrari wins up to 7 km/h on the Silver Arrows. Altogether Mercedes loses four tenths on the red opponent over all straights.

We've only seen this bill from Red Bull so far. They lost 0.8 seconds over all straights.

There are more ways than one to describe what happened in acc phases on straights. Merc and Ferrari are very likely deploying ERS on different parts of track, as was the case in previous races. Other than that, article does state that Merc is faster in corners - so more wing plays its role in top speed variations of course.

Mercedes is losing five tenths to Ferrari on the straights.

Ferrari have gained almost 38 horsepower in one race, according to GPS data.

That's the amount of power most teams find over 2 years.

There are so many factors which could influence the mentioned data that this talk must be BS.

38 hp? I don’t think that such a big amount of hp is equal to just 2 tenths difference which was the gap between Vettel and Bottas today.

It's a huge amount of horsepower for these power units.

And you have to look at the gap by sectors. Bottas and the Merc were mighty in Sector 3, but got obliterated by nearly 5 tenths on the long straights in the first 2 sectors.

Yep, those pesky Mercedes and Renault engineers fabricating GPS data again.

Would explain why a Sauber and the 2 Haas cars are week-in, week-out top 10 cars now.

A translated excerpt:

"The power syringe came in two spurts. A small one in Montreal, the big one in Spielberg. Since GP Austria Renault and Mercedes again measure suspicious performance data via GPS. After their calculation, the Italians have increased from one race to the next 28 kilowatts (38 hp). "That's how much you'll usually find in two years."

"The FIA measures at two points. Once the electrical power at the output of the battery, then the torque on the crankshaft. Both must match. That's the case with Ferrari."

Even if it was the case, there is only one thing to tell: Amazing job Ferrari.

You did not understand my post. They did not fabricate it. They just misinterpreted it intenionally. They all do it to make some point.

2% less drag theoretically requires 15HP less to reach a speed of around 320-330kph, not to mention acceleration benefit if same power is available. More than these 2% can be varied with rear wing, for example.

That would be about 6 tenths.
