As expected. After liberty annouced that the new supplier would‘ve to supply 13“ tires for a single year this rouled out hankook and michelin...

I‘m unsure if liberty did this accidentally or not :x
yes i also think that clause was just there to make sure pirelli gets the deal. :(

Liberty wanted to extend the current deal to 2020, Pirelli refused. New tyres weren't going to come a year earlier than the bodywork changes for cost reasons.

No, it was revealed months ago when the 2020-2023 tender first went out

Due no whole sale changes, the 2018 tyre thread will be used for the 2019 season as well. Changed topic title accordingly. There are changes however comparedto 2018 however.

That's dissapointing viewing. C1 looks pointless and C3 much too close to C2. Hopefully there's more differentiation in the compound hardness.

Why would it be pointless? If you had it run too much hotter it'd be useless because nobody would set their cars up to generate the heat required, and being lower grip it gets harder to generate the required energy as you get harder and harder compounds anyway.
A wide heat range relatively close together with enough variation to cope with different track temperatures is good thing, not a bad one. #-o

It looks pointless if you think working temperarture correlates highly to grip.

This years tires looks very Temperatur dependent. Ham need some laps to get on Speed (Maybe he drive carefully). Hamilton, Vettel and Norris lost Temperatur and the laptime increases by 0,5 - 1 sec.

I have a tyre question...

When a car pits the TV shows a box at the bottom left with the tyre type that's been fitted. At the bottom of that it says 'Spec: Balanced'. What does that mean? And what other options might there be?

Thanks!

It's just an rough guide for the casual viewer - the medium tyre is a balance between speed and tyre life, hard tyre is long life, soft tyre is more speed, etc.

That's it? Flippin' eck, I though it was something technical that I was missing! Many thanks! :)
