And suddenly we are in the same pace as the Haas. What is going on today?
Nothing, the midfield is very, very close, this is a track where everyone is on top of tyres even in cars with a narrow setup window like the HAAS and TR. And I suspect looking how qualy and the race went, the renault is a little behind where they want on fuel economy as they were dropping back until the safety car let them turn the engine up again.

That is the difference between a historic large team and other mediocre midfields. We can steal points with strategy and some luck. They can't that often.

I have failed completely with my prediction for today. Haas and STR were mighty, and Mclaren was in best case scenario good enough for P11 without the incidents. However, great drive by Carlos, and great job at the pitwall, they have excecuted the manouver to the perfection.

On the other hand i have lost words for Groesjean and FIA. That place over there should have been gravel only. Because it isnt, Groesjen got points for 3 consecutive mistakes in a row...
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

Well its to be expected from that useless FIA. They tend to penalise Mclaren usually and they close their eyes on other incidents. I still can't forget Vettel and Webber back in 2010 hitting the Mclarens in Monza, Singapore and Spa and goetting away with it.

On another note Barcelona wont come back next year. The only race that is stable from 1950 is Monaco.

I think some are overreacting about the lack of pace. If Sainz was indeed on a 1 stopper who knows where he could have ended up if those in front had to pit again. Clearly still work to do to understand and improve the package and get the most out of it. That stint after the SC wasnt too bad! Great result after a difficult weekend. I'll take that all day long.

horible race, horible pace and deeply disapointing with the huge update package in mind, but the race is saved from points perspective
The upgrades were relatively minor in McLaren's mind. A lot more still to come!

Not good enough !!
I predicted they would probably both start on Soft, but the pace was not good.
SC helped SAI, to get into the points, but the pace through out the race was not that good.
I acknowledge that in most of the race they where driving on a delta, 2 sec behind other cars, to manage tires, but again, it always felt that something was wrong, pace wise.
I hope they make good use of the Barcelona test to sort out or proper evaluate the new Aero philosophy.
SAI did a very good final stint, but he has to up his game on Qualifying, because on half the races, overtaking doesn't come easy. Everything will become much easier if they are qualifying right behind the red bulls.

You sure, there was an article today that they’re trying to renew...
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Well isn't there a 2 day test after Barcelona?

On another note. Did Mercedes find out a loophole in the rules to exploit to be so fast? That reminds me on 2009 with the Double Diffuser.

We are lucky today, we need two days to put in order the new items, this is no good.

I don't think they have a new aero philosophy, just went a bit more aggressive with the outwash front wing.

they underplay, it was a HUGE update that took a LONG time to develop, and they had absolutely horrible pace, lets hope they missed the setup, and great save in the end so.. on and upwards

I have to laugh at everyone saying it's not good enough, it's exactly where Mclaren themselves and anyone that's been watching the rest of the season expected the car to be this weekend - I said this before even practice that Mclaren were expecting HAAS and TR to be much faster here so they brought more hard tyres to use it mainly as a test session for the new aero. I think they'll be pretty damned happy with a P8, and as someone already said, Sainz was managing tyres and fuel to do a potential one-stop race without the safety car, so they could have still been up at the same spot even without the SC.
