At the same time, Ross Brawn was the architect of the current Mercedes team. Would it surprise you to know that his decisions and input have benefitted Mercedes? Coincidental, perhaps, but you can't deny facts.

Yes, it's a coincidence. To think that Brawn would be working in the background at Liberty to make Mercedes successful is not only fantasy, it's an insult to a man who has a well regarded and successful career in motorsport.

Moreover, why would he do it for Mercedes, for whom he never worked, rather than Ferrari for whom he did work with amazing success?

On race day track temps above 50°C are expected, 2018 tires would probably fall apart after 3 or 4 laps!

They would probably blister like last year if pushed hard, so it seems the 18 tires required much more tire preserving.

I think the temps for the last 2 races have been over 50°c, yet the tires held up pretty strong. Not many complaints.

Anyway, the meeting over the tires will be a moot point. Mercedes, Williams, Force India, and McLaren will all stand against the changes. Renault is a toss-up, and Alfa does not want to switch, but could made to fall in line by the Scuderia.

LOL that really got me. Tires were there during the test. It's not like they change in between the races. Deal with it teams. At least it's more consistent than MotoGP where they were changing compounds and constructions in between races mid-season.

Agreed. I don't think anything will come of this, but the media likes to play theses things up as more uncertain than they actually are to generate clicks and discussion. Some people like to claim that the thinner-gauge tires were introduced to suit Mercedes despite all teams suffering from blistering. While that may be incidentally (but, crucially, not intentionally) true, if this sham of all shams went through, that would literally be Pirelli changing the tires to suit other teams.

As dans79 pointed out, the topic is definitely relevant for this thread. Only F1 could shoot itself in the foot like this and let a topic like this overshadow a race weekend 1 week after the same happened with "Penalty-gate."

If this goes ahead, they are opening a can of worms. If the teams are dissatisfied with Pirelli's product, they should look for a different supplier for 2021 or open up the tyre regulations for multiple suppliers. I don't hate any F1 driver or team but Redbull make it so difficult for me. They are constantly whinging about one thing or the other and would rather blame everyone or everything else than admit their own failing.

It would still be "only" five, even without the "almost"

Statistically, Spielberg must be Hamilton's worst track though, at least in regards to the qualifying record agianst his team mate (1-4)?! Will be interesting to see, if Bottas will be able to grab that opportunity to beat him again.

It would have been funny if tyre changes had been brought in and Mercedes was still up there. Not sure what the team bosses of Ferrari and RedBull would have said then.

The aero is still changed. But the tires are such an important factor. Even at this very race last year both Mercedes’ were already beat (before they had to retire) as they had been blistering most. 8 races 8 wins. Without the tires this would not have happened (but of ourse Merc would still be leading).
