Here's some verstappens onboards after he got into the lead. To add a bit of context to the level at which he was driving I've included live gaps along the regular speedometer. He really was just making the entire field look silly at certain stages, especially SC restarts. If this was a dry race verstappen would probably win either way, as merc ran simply too much downforce for a dry track, which showed in their poor pace when the track dried out.

restart on lap 34, leaving hulk and later on bottas for dead

and the restart on lap 46. Casually putting 5s on bottas in 1 lap, before pitting for slicks. Then proceeding to destroy stroll as if he's standing still.

Lol Max has enough time to tell his engineer to watch Stroll’s times who just pitted for slicks (how did he knee that anyone, didnt hear it on the radio being mentioned to him). And the way he talks with his engineer is like they are sitting on the couch both reading a book
True GOATs don’t need the help of superior material to win.

Tom Brady, Usain Bolt are true GOATs.

Thanks Juzh, these are really insightful onboards. For instance seeiing VER managing the throttle out of the corner, and his own call to pit for softs when he noticed the racing line was all dried up (except turn 8 ).

i'm not sure what buxton is on about with "drivers having to contend with fuel preservation", but there was absolutely no fuel saving going on that i've seen. Zero. What he's hearing as lift and coast towards the end of straight is actually ers derating and thus speeds droping on it's own.

Magic thanks juzh, wonderful teamwork, RE and driver. That 5s gap lap and then to pit, confidence from driver in team and vice versa. I remember playing microprose GP manager and this is what I always meant with "driver pace yourself" (dealing with John Newhouse)

I think some of Max heroics has to do with Honda engine drivability in the rain remember last Str out qualified Rbr in Hungary during rain. Something to do with cylinder deactivation Honda is more aggressive with this technology than other manufacturers.

I remember last year str were so impressed where honda were continuously making changes to the mapping to suit the conditions.

Pretty sure the guy on the rear left tire only just secures the wheel nut as the car is dropped and starts moving!

I think the guys on the jacks may of dropped the car early and got lucky!

Still amazing

You've got eagle eyes. Missed it until you told me they adjusted the front wing settings. =D>

Amazing the realize a consistent pit stop under the 2 seconds. That's about crew experience and not about luck.

No is not about experience but preparation and training.redbull built a special electric car during preseason testing and used it to work their pit stops

From an interview with Helmut Marko on AMuS.
He looks back on a turbulent race and explains why Verstappen is a candidate for the title.

* From when did you believe in a victory?

Marko: Right after the first pit stop. Since I saw, what speed we can drive.

* What is still missing?

Marko: In Monza we get an engine upgrade, in Russia new fuel. Then we should have unlocked the engine.
The car also becomes some improvements. Wait and you will see it .

* Does he still have a title chance?

Marko: I would not rule it out.

It's going to be difficult, but possible. If Hamilton wins again twice and Verstappen doesn't podium, this year's chance is gone. Verstappen has to start beating Hamilton, the car and driver have the race pace but maybe not the quali pace. Front row starts would be ideal, but getting by 2 Mercedes, even if Bottas is slower than Verstappen, isn't easy.

The only hope is that Ferrari can also steal a few wins, anything other than Mercedes 1-2. The chance is slim, but it is still there.

They can certainly be in contention next round
