Besides the work Merc has put in to improve their grip, this GP also for the first time showed us another strength that has been hidden by their dominance. They also improved one of their previous seasons weakness. They can now also follow the car in front much more closely. At a track like Hungary, that is full of corners they were mighty impressive. If the roles were reversed I don't think Max would have been able to follow Lewis at that pace.
This however worries me for 2020. Arent they just gonna unlock more potential when needed in 2020 crushing our hopes that was based on recent races?

Also, Max is now properly fighting for 2nd in the WDC, who would have thought that?
True GOATs don’t need the help of superior material to win.

Tom Brady, Usain Bolt are true GOATs.

The way Kvyat and Albon were racing each other, you get the feeling they're auditioning for Gasly's seat. Great drive from Max, and Lewis of course, it's hard to blame Red Bull for the strategy, it was just a roll of the dice and it paid off for Mercedes. Another important thing to note is, if I'm not mistaken, this is race 5 for current engine. It's been through some big fights along the way, requiring higher modes frequently and still holding out perfectly. Reliability is practically flawless.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

I think that the only winning strategy was to stop for fresh tires immediately after HAM failed to overtake MAX with the hard tires.

Once they missed that lap they would have come back out behind the Ferrari.
There probably was an option to take softs and go for broke, but there still would have been the problem of passing cars and they were approaching the point where no one knew who was going to pit or who would be infront on new tyres.
Lapped cars are supposed to 'jump out the way' but losing half a second on 3 cars is still 1.5 seconds.

Yes, but they would force Merecedes to cover them, and Hamilton would be behind Ferraries, too.

The pace of development of RBR is promising though and gives hope. Yeah who would have thought Max would have been fighting for 2nd place in WDC. It's just makes the fact that they cannot fight for 2nd place in WCC frustrating. They need the torpedo. Not that he is faster than Albon, he can just a proven risk taker which is what is needed to get the most from the RBR and put the competition under pressure. Something that Gasly lacks.

Was Hamilton struggling with grip? I thought he was OK? He could have stayed out and had fresh later

Don’t be “glass half empty” all the time.

Relax, enjoy the chase. The world isn’t that bad!

Enjoy it! It’s fun!

He wasn't struggling but the car performance had plateaued he wasn't going to be able to go any faster. So only option was to shake things up and pit

Yep. RB messed with hard tire degradation analisis also but it's due to ruined friday practice i think. They should have known that hard tires wont go to the end and prevent the undercut or make the first stop 6 laps later and it would have won the race.

It hurts to lose a win like this. Seeing Ham doing fast lap after fast lap, until Max was unable to defend with dead tires.

But on the other hand. The improvement since they fully unlocked the Spec 3 potential, and the upgraded aero it've been awesome. They almost closed the gap that on the start of the season was big. And that give me hope when the Spec 4 kicks in, with maybe a few more upgrades, we will be battling Mercs on equal level. But the challenge is big, we're battling one of the best teams of F1 history with one of the best drivers too. So it will be a hell of a battle. But bring it on! And on 2020... The real final round hopefully with equal cars from the start

Barerly a month ago if Max was in second position we will be cherring like if was a victory, today the felling is a defeat, incredible how things has change.
The second part of the season is going to be very interesting, next two races are going to be a real test of where the team is compare to Merc and Ferrari. As today's results RBR is the second team of the field and giving a real battle to Merc, not Ferrari promised battle.

point is what would happened if Gas was 15-20 sec behind Max today ?
this things will happen again he is alone against the Mercs, his teammate not gonna help him against Mercs or the Ferrari.. i fancy Max to overtake Bottas in the WDC but RBR won't overtake Ferrari.
either way there will be some stunning races after the summer break.
para bellum.

This is not the original. It may be a little inaccurate.
“It hurts us that only one of our riders is ahead,” said the head of Red Bull Racing. - Especially it concerns glasses in the Cup of designers. Gusli just needs to think over the first half of the season and learn from it during the break. To fight the Ferrari, we vitally need it to finish higher. ”

Speaking about the performance of Pierre at the Hungaroring, Horner did not defend his pilot.

“This weekend brought him disappointment,” Christian said. - He started poorly, had a poor first round. We must not fight with Sauber and McLaren. We need him to fight with Ferrari and Mercedes. The problem is that Pierre is not involved in the fight at all. There is no such thing that after a pit stop, Lewis rode behind him. But today, both Mercedes and Red Bull were one-legged, as their second cars dropped out of the fight. "

Horner noted that the team is still counting on Gasly, but expect him to seriously improve his form: “We want to leave Pierre behind the wheel until the end of the season. But we desperately need it to realize the potential of the machine. "
It's funny
Hamilton: Well, firstly that's really awesome that he's supportive. I was watching some of the starts of previous years and watching him in his Renault days, remembering before I got to Formula One watching how amazing their starts were... I don't know how old Fernando is now but if he's always going to be a great driver. If he can get a good seat he is always welcome to battle with us. It doesn't make a difference necessarily to me, I'm here to fight whoever is here.

Verstappen: I think it was a bit of a shame I never had the chance to fight him in F1.

Hamilton: He'd be a good teammate for you ...

Verstappen: You had experience with it, I don't know.

Vettel: He doesn't want to [remember].

Hamilton: Speak to Christian!

Verstappen: [laughs] Well...

*Vettel is asked the question*

Vettel: I don't mind -- I don't think he ever really like me, I don't really know why! I don't mind him, I respect him for what he achieved and what he did on track. Bring him back, I don't mind.

Verstappen: Maybe he's a social media manager! No, to me he's always been very nice and good. I like that he is also now looking into other opportunities for racing. He just loves racing and he wants to win, he wants to be competitive. It's good to see.

Hamilton: This sport needs the best drivers in the best seats, you know. And there's still at least a seat available that's good enough for winning, and he's good enough for winning so it wouldn't be such a bad thing...

Verstappen: Maybe he can speak to Toto [Wolff]?

Hamilton: Well, Valtteri's great, Valtteri's been winning! You're the one with the extra seat, I would say...

Verstappen: [hands raised in the air] I didn't say that!
