As today's results RBR is the second team of the field and giving a real battle to Merc, not Ferrari promised battle.
point is what would happened if Gas was 15-20 sec behind Max today ?
this things will happen again he is alone against the Mercs, his teammate not gonna help him against Mercs or the Ferrari.. i fancy Max to overtake Bottas in the WDC but RBR won't overtake Ferrari.
either way there will be some stunning races after the summer break.
Had he been 15 - 20 seconds behind Max there would not have been a slot and Lewis would bot have pitted for fresh tyres. It is anyone's guess where it would have gone from there.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

Another question is how the 5 races old Spec 3 will hold at Spa. For now it seems the PU can handle good and with good power during all race, but Spa is long as hell. So it will be a good test. Maybe put Gasly on Spec 4 early to gather some data and see how it goes?? Because anyway, he won't score many points if he keeps driving like that. And then at Monza you will have at least one car without penalties. Same to STR.

But after Monza, I think we will be able to fight with Merc on all remaining tracks with more or less equal pace.

Once they missed that lap they would have come back out behind the Ferrari.
There probably was an option to take softs and go for broke, but there still would have been the problem of passing cars and they were approaching the point where no one knew who was going to pit or who would be infront on new tyres.
Lapped cars are supposed to 'jump out the way' but losing half a second on 3 cars is still 1.5 seconds.
Yes, but they would force Merecedes to cover them, and Hamilton would be behind Ferraries, too.
Was Hamilton struggling with grip? I thought he was OK? He could have stayed out and had fresh later
At this time he didn't struggling with the grip but he would be definitely in very tough situation few laps later when Ferraris went for pits and clear the track for Max.

Well, it started smoking today after the finish. The Alfa Romeo guys (yes, not a mistake) started cooling it. So maybe the engine was run too hard?

It could be only some heat shield or something like this burning a little , after stopping the car and with raised temps. I don't know about the PU's, so it can be something, or nothing :?

I hate to bash Gasly but he might as well take a new PU at every race to develop the new spec. That can then enable STR to hold onto 5th place. RBR are under no threat for third.

Verstappens tyres were gone pretty soon. Both McLarens run the same laps on soft.

Maybe he chose an agressive setup?

Maybe he was asking a bit more then the Mclarens. He and Lewis outpaced the ferrari’s By a minute. Max on a one stopper.

That he got this pace out of these tires for so long was actually quite a feat imho.

i loved this race and it was after 10 laps clear this is Hamiltons to lose, Verstappen had to be at least 10s ahead to have a chance to win it but Hamilton could keep the same pace and on some moments even being faster.
for Verstappen it was bad they had such a big advantage over Ferrari, because if Ferrari was within striking distance of Hamilton (10-15s), Mercedes wouldn't have pitted Hamilton for the Medium tyres.
but because both had such a big advantage, Mercedes could play the "fresh tyre" card and RB couldn't do anything about it because after Merc pitted Hamilton he was faster already and reduced the gap to Verstappen to 18s (so Verstappen would be 2s behind Hammilton and had given up track position)...

nonetheless this was a good weekend for RB and Max Verstappen, overall the last 4 races he scored more points the Gasly would have over the whole season.

to Gasly... please replace him and frankly i don't care with whom, but the way he let himself being pipped by the both McLarens and Räikkönnen and not even being able to pass the latter with a superior car compared to them isn't Red Bull worthy .... as a matter of fact it's a embarresment for all the ppl being involved with the car/engine at Mitlon Keynes and Sakura all together

If Kvyat would've been on the RB15 today, I'm sure he would've been near the top 2. And maybe helping Max to cover some strategies, like that one Merc used today. Or at worst, taking points from Ferrari for 2nd on WCC...

Marti i am not a fan of Kvyat but i guess you are correct, although Bottas couldn't help Hamilton either so it was a mano a mano fight, with Hamilton having the better tools (faster car) and opportunities (having a big enough gap to pit a 2nd time)

No way. Albon finished ahead of him, r u saying Albon would have been close. Too many ifs, if Bottas didn't have to change wing early he would be top 3.

Gasly post race came back with the same excuse - we newd to analyse the car. I thought he had Max's setup.

Looking at the race pace the mediums seem to be a bad choice. Soft and Hard were much better option. Mclarens and Raikonnein with used softs were so much quicker than Ferrari near the end of first stint. Even thoae who pitted for fresh sets were not going much faster.

Albon had the better pitstrategy which gave Albon an advantage

Albon is actually quite good. And so is Kvyat, but on talent I think Albon is ahead.

Gasly, I really expected him to make it tough on Max in the qualy. Not so much on race craft, but it is just not coming from/for him. On his best tracks he is closer, but still. Hopefully he can reboot during the holidays and step up the next half year. He needs to make it happen.

Yeah, and making the same mistake again. Putting a young/inexperienced driver too early on a top team with a top driver. Let Albon grow, and put Kvyat on that seat. He have experience, he have good pace and he've been on RBR and got some results (at least performed way better than Gasly is doing).

Albon has talent, I like it. And its because that I want him to take more experience on a less pressure enviroment, and on a tight midfield battling for points, than having to compare to Max and battling the top drivers too early...
